Question about Maytag Dependable Care LAT9206
With all front load washers a grinding noise will point to the spider on the basket, looks like spokes on a tire, except with 3 arms will break or a mechanical bearing failure from leaking seals, overheat or from adverse elements in your water. It is cheaper to fix the spider were as a bearing failure involves replacing the rear of the tub because the bearing are pressed in at the factory. If you are curious remove the screws holding the back panel or cover. look for flywheel that is tight yet shows movement side to side and or water leaks, rust or stains. Expect 500 to fix this problem. Before you do and own your home or condo and have insurance to cover the home and appliances I would rather pay a large deduct before doing this.

check for some loose items underneath the unit. washing machines normally reverses its rotation when spinning. check if mechanical solenoids pulls the right levers as it starts to spin....

You would hear the bearings in the spin cycle if it was them ....it would sound like you are at the airport...you will probably find that a bra wire has caught itself inbetween the drum and the tub and is scratching as it goes around.
