Screen flickers in and out if I move it around it will often stay on but I am concerned that one day soon this will not work at all. I would like to fix or replace the troublesome part.

Some possible causes
--Some laptops have a function key that can turn off the screen when you have an external monitor running. Check your documentation to find out.

--The lamp burnt out.

--Cover switch (when you close laptop) is stuck/jammed/loose.

I have a Gateway mx7118 laptop with that exact same problem, but being a tech, and having a machine that is out of warranty, I felt comfortable diving in. There is a cable ( not a ribbon cable ) that goes from the motherboard to the inverterboard. (in case you don't know, the inverter is what takes the dc voltage and ramps it up to power the flourecent bulb in your lcd screen) From opening and closing the lid the wires in the cable have broken, but are still held together by the insolation. Your best option is to find a parts retailer to sell you one ( neighborhood of $20). Staples has a phone number for them, or if you are good with a soldering iron give each wire a tug and the broken wire(s) will come apart. if you patch it yourself be sure to use heat-shrink tubing, tape will probably slide off and you will short circuit to ground and kill your inverter board.

This is a problem with this particular model - I have the same laptop and same issue (and have read about dozens of others with the same issue). There's also a bug in the restore software, so had to get my own version of Windows XP to get it working again (but didn't fix the screen). Will never buy a Gateway again!

Gateway 7330GZ problems

Computer does not boot up
The problem maybe the RAM, it could be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you.
Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

Gateway laptop screen is black?

This could have several causes, including malware installed on your system, but is frequently the result of some kind of hardware driver conflict. Have you recently installed any new hardware or software to your system? If so, disconnect it and try again.
The black screen is an indication that the windows os is not booting onto the system. If you have the recovery console installed, or have the cds, you can run the recovery console to troubleshoot or repair your installation of windows. This procedure is different for xp or vista, so we need to know what os you're on, as well as any error messages you see when it fails to boot.
To begin with, try tapping F8 as it boots up and see it you can get into the OS options screen, then choose Last Known good configuration to boot windows.
Here's a great article to help you troubleshoot the situation, then let us know how it goes and what comes up..

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Can someone provide me online recovery disk of gateway 7330gz

You must set the boot sequence of the system to cd/dvd rom first which will enable the system to look for booting files in the disc in the first instance.

In your case your system is booting direct from hard disk. Boot sequence can be changed ib the bios setup of your system.

In some laptop models the restore files can be accessed by pressing function keys while system starting.

Notebook Gateway 7330GZ won't boot

Hm...That sounds like either the motherboard is dying/dead or a device is (such as the hard drive). I would suggest removing one piece at a time and see if you can get past that screen. The most annoying would be if it is the DVD drive since it's probably the most difficult device to remove from the laptop. (If memory serves it involves removing a certain screw from the bottom and then getting under the keyboard so you can push it out).

Do you have a second stick of RAM installed? Mine died a while ago and caused real heck with my 7330GZ.

7330GZ Gateway laptop keyboard doesn't work

There is one thing you can try. Uninstall the drivers for the keyboard from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the keyboard and reinstall the drivers automatically. If this doesn't work, then I'm afraid the Shift key function has failed and the keyboard will need replaced in order to fix it.
