Examine the belt that powers the print head, see if it is excessively sloppy, check the head moves freely along the print head bar, if it snags, there is damage to the bar or the print head holder is worn
TBH, I'd bury it if there is any wear as replacement parts are expensive compared to a new printer

Hi there maximum time we found it is a the head problem. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. For resolve the problem please follow these.
Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over. Some how if its not come then Unplug the printer & Manually slide the carriage. Now Remove the ink cartridges from the print head & Use wet warm cotton swab or use alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head. Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab. After finished it make the head dry then fix it back. Now Try to print something now
If that does not work then follow the next step.
Remove the printer data cable & restart the PC & printer. Then fit back the data cable & turn on the printer. Hope that's start working , if no luck then Uninstall the printer driver & restart the PC & Printer both again. Now install the driver of the printer and connect it with PC ,Turn on printer & go for a test print from the printer preference. Thanks & waiting for your reply.
Hi Linda,
Sounds like clutch problems, try to move the lever for carpet/floor back and forth a few times maybe it will free up. If it still makes the grinding noise, the clutch assembly will have to be replaced. Let me know, i can even walk you through the repair if needed.
Brakes hanging up or axle is going out. CV boot is probably torn and you are hearing bearings crashing around. Check before it goes out or you may end up crashing and stranded
The print head is stuck - something has jammed it and the noise you are hearing is the carriage for the print head. Open the top and try moving the head by head sideways to see what has jammed it.
This may help: the silver colored rod that the cartridges ride on made just be a tad dirty. Unplug the printer, open the cover and with a slightly damp cloth wipe the rod off. Do this several until no dirt is showing on the cloth. Sometime the fine mist of ink spay settles and makes it sticky. Try it now and see if it travels along any better. I have even taken a cotton ball with some fine oil (sewing machine, gun oil etc) and wipe rod lightly. hope this helps... please leave a rating- thank you kindly
Could be a faulty toner.
Check if the gears on the tonercartridiges still rotate. Had this problem on a CLP300 a while back : locked gear on the Black toner, causing a "snap-like" sound during printing.
So take out each colour, and see if you can rotate the gear protuding from that cartridige.
