Question about Dell PART NUMBER KIT SPEAKER MM ACS45 ALTEC EUR 45502 Computer Speakers

Altec Lansing ACS45.2-Lightning strike

We had a lightning strike near the house that I think came in through the cable. The cable amplifier was fried along with a wireless router and one TV will not turn on. I was using this subwoofer on my main TV that did not get damaged. The trouble is that I can no longer turn the subwoofer on by pressing the two volume buttons. The main fuse in the unit is good and I am getting about 18.7 volts DC after the diodes. Nothing looks cooked. Is there anyway to just install an on/off switch somewhere? Thanks

After more research on the web I found someone that had the same problem (would not turn on after static shock). He found it to be the volume control IC. He talked about the volume control pins should have a voltage of 12 and his where 1.2 (the same as mine) so I am ordered a new IC. I'll let you know if it works. Thanks for the quick response.

There is a good chance with a lightening strike that damaged so much of your equipment that this device was also affected. power to the device doesn't necessarily mean that other components were not damaged.... you can elimanate speaker damage by hooking the speakers up to another device to check them.

Altec lansing ada885 took a dose of 240V, burned fuse in place, replaced fuse, worked for about 2 hours, now nothing

Well is the new fuse still good or out again. if its good, then you probably fried the main board on the amplifier. These computer speakers do not handel big power serge's.

Speakers Died?

No, I think you've fried only the fuse of Altec Lansing. Check at the back of the main unit (subwoofer) if there's a fuse box (should look like head of the plastic bolt). If not than turn it off, unplug it and open op the main unit and check for the fuse. It should look like this:0a68355.jpg

If the metal wire inside of it is broken than you should buy new fuse of same amperage (it should be engraved on metal part of the fuse or printed on glass tube).

hello FrankH2,

time to change your remote. You also get one from Altec Lansing, but you have to RMS if you register your product, or go on www.alteclansing.com and check the way to change your remote. Other than this, is go to repair shop near you , and see if the Tech personel, can check the remote, for fried line or capacitor.

Output board for Altec Lansing ADA995

I had the same problem. One day I heard two pops and the speaker, including the power light, were dead. Neither Dell nor Altec Lansing support them. They're throw-aways, unless you know a genius electronics technician.
