For some reason my monitor will not turn off. When I turn my computer off the monitor remains in standy and does not respond when I touch the power button. Also the colors on the monitor are very bright and the screen keeps twitching and a box that says "auto processing" keeps popping up. Constantly blinking Menu on the monitor emachine/gateway LE1799 model

For the longest time, my monitor wouldn't shut off. Just the other day, it was possessed again, and the Menu keeps popping on the screen intermittently. No buttons are being pushed. To get the menu off the screen, I have to repeatedly push the menu button. When it gets too annoying I have to unhook the monitor cable at the back. Yesterday, when the menu popped up, it was on the bright/contrast option, and looked like someone, somewhere in a far away realm was adjusting my brightness for me, till it was all the way down to -0. Nice. Makes me wanna don a tin foil chapeau and dive under my desk.

well if this helps anyone, I found an answer somewhere last night (the techs at emachines didn't know) that if you turn off the monitor's power and press the 'menu' button while it's off, then turn it back on, it sets re-sets that blinking menu so it quits blinking.

I have the same problem. I tried turning my computer off and pressing the menu button and I guess It doesnt work on mine. It seems like everytime the monitor gets hot it starts acting up. i am very not satisfied with emachines at all. Since I got this computer all Ive had is problems after another and I dont search the web I only use to get on, Itunes, and myspace. The one at the the job where I started working at is the same. This computer is only two yrs old I bearly even use it. Can someone please tell me or help solve this problem cause it is very annoying? Thank you.

Perhaps I should clarify: For the longest time, my monitor wouldn't shut off WHEN I PUSHED the ON/OFF Button.......and yet now, magically, the ON/OFF button works again. The thing that keeps coming ON by itself is the monitor's MENU, with absolutely zero buttons being pushed.

    But thanks, anyway.

It is not a bad rom. if it was a rom it would constantly act up but it only acts up upon overheating. The solution is difficult but if you open the monitor you can find all of the heatsinks take them of and replace them with bigger ones. or have a fan blowing on it at all time it is active i added bigger heatsinks to my emachine le1799 and it solved this problem of pulling up menu and changing setting by itself and the lack of the ability to turn power of.

My monitor is an hp pavilion f1503, at least 4yrs old.

And yes, I did push the power button, repeatedly (the first few months that this happened, not every few seconds). And now, again, it won't shut off at all. I'm pretty much thinking I'm screwbied until such a time when I want to go spend the bux on a new monitor, and by that time a new pc as well!

The only way to get the menu to stop blinking on and off is to slide a piece of plastic (like a keyring discount card) on top of the Menu button on the monitor. Otherwise, menu keeps popping up, and it goes directly to the brightness/contrast submenu, and then adjusts itself from +100 to -0, on the brightness. It's just possessed.

@Miragi , Did you press the power button to shut the display off ?

Can you specify what brand and model your monitor is and how old is it ? ....

    @ Marigi

Thats a bad ROM in the monitor !

The ONLY solution there is a replacement.
