MOTHERBOARDS Dell p4 the board dose not power on when you press the switch even though the led on the board is lighting.

Is it the fan of your mainboard & processor is running when u turn the power on?.. If no.. check the power supply.. it may be damage.. If yes.. try reconnect the RAM.. or even the graphic card..

    Same issue. Led is lit. NO fan, NO power led, NO diagnostic leds. PSU is good. Solution please.

As you have checked all of the removable components. That only leaves one bit left. The motherboard. Check the capacitors around the CPU socket and the Power connector. There is a common problem with Socket 775 CPU it is that the contacts on the CPU socket can be badly connected even when the CPU is fitted and locked in.

Hi,

Having worked with Dell computers before I have found that the amber light usually means bad power supply.
Get a replacement power supply from a know working Dell machine as their power supplies are different from standard ATX power supplies.

Massive noise, now unable to access computer at all. constant amber light, not moving to next stage, nothing on screen, several thermal events previous to it blocking my access


Noise is most likely CPU Fan racing. Fault is most likely motherboard failure (Solid Amber power LED is usually MB and thermal events could be associated) Replace the motherboard

look at the board it should say it at the very bottom right-hand corn and i mean very very bottom almost a ninety degree angle with the end of the board it should say panel or panel 1...2..or.3

On most motherboards the front panel connections are printed in the connectors on the motherboard. When you connect the various LED indicators and when you power up and they do not light up then just switch the connectors around, because they are are polarized.
You can go to the motherboard WEB site to download a manual, the manufacturer and model number is printed on the motherboard.

Problem Solved, changed the power supply with a 450watt one and it booted fine .
