On my camera, I can plug it into the computer, turn it on, and then click the My Computer link on the desktop. When that opens, it shows all the drives on the computer - A, C, D, etc, and it shows the camera as a separate drive as well. I can click on that and the viewer opens automatically, allowing me to go through the pics on the camera. Try that out - it may work for you too.

I believe that in your camera package contained what we need. USB cable, CD driver and your camera.

1. install the cd driver camed with your camera
2. insert the usb cable from your camera to your computer.
3. now you can browse or view your camera from your computer

hope that help!

you can see on your MY COMPUTER another drive is inserted. but wait... try to see the settings on your camera first and look for configuration that is indicated a MASS STORAGE. that means your using your camera as a storage to view and recognize by your computer.

NIKON D40 I can not see thru my LCD panel

The LCD panel is for menus, shooting settings, and reviewing pictures after they've been taken. The D40 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, providing a viewfinder through which you compose your pictures. The Live View feature which lets you use your SLR as a point&shoot and hold it at the end of wobbly arms was introduced with the D300, released several years after the D40.

Picture is not showing on screen until after I take the picture

The D40 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, showing the view only through the viewfinder. The LCD is for menus, setup, and reviewing pictures you've already taken. The LiveView capability that allows you to use the LCD for composing your pictures is a relatively new feature. Nikon introduced it into their cameras with the D3 and D300, released well after the D40.

Sorry if that wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but that's the way this camera works.

How to use the monitor as a view finder on nikon d40

The Nikon D40 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, providing a viewfinder for composition and framing. The monitor in the back is for menu settings, shooting parameters, and picture review. Only more recent dSLRs (in Nikon's case, starting with the D3 and D300) provide the LiveView capability.

My d300 has suddeny decided a my memory cards are corrupt. They work fine in a card reader

When you remove the card reader from the computer, you must use the "safely remove hardware" function or your card will be corrupted. Sometimes, if you format the card in the camera, everything returns to normal (download the pictures first).
