I use Belarc software to get me the info of a System when labels and or am too lazy to open PC and physically view Motherboard Details so that I can figure out whether Installing a later version of an OS is possible.
Other factors to consider is Audio and Graphics drivers for it, i.e. are there any as well as is the cost of updating any or both those components worth the effort especially when more Memory might be needed and so forth.
To answer your Q regarding Upating BIOS, the answer most of the time is NO, just awrdacpi is probably not the motherboard manufacturer name or model but reference to the BIOS chip.

My first suggestion would be to clean your XP disk and make sure there are no scratches on it. Then depending on the BIOS of your machine when starting up press either F10 or F12 to enter the boot device menu there select your cd and hit enter. This should fix your problem for you

In system setup (bios) Set CD Drive as first device in the boot sequence. Press F10 then chose "Y" to save.
1. Put your old XP CD in and reboot.
2. After reboot if asked if you want to start on cd chose yes.
try to go to bios and load bios defaults, esc then save and exit. boot from the cdrom by, tapping on F12 at dell screen. at boot menu screen, choose cdrom, press enter, when you see the message, PRESS ANY KEY T5O BOOT TO CDROM, hit any immediately, that should allow you to install xp directly from the cdrom.
