Sudden Shutdown My computer shuts down quickly after i turn it on (it lasts between 2 seconds and 1 minute, randomly). I could see a warning about overclocking settings which i tried to undo (i haven't done that and i don't know even how) but i'm not sure if i made it alright. what could i do about this? is there a way to reset bios/setup settings? what other things can cause sudden shutdowns? Hi, I am Sanja and will try to help you.
Try to remove battery from your motherboard, and power cable from computer case. Leave it for about minute, and then return battery, power cable and try to turn on the PC.

You should have no trouble in identifying battery, it is pretty much standard, if you have more questions please do post them

Regards, Sanja.

System shutdown in 15 seconds

Shut the power down to the computer all the power and pull the power cord out, remove all usb devices except the mouse and keyboard, Turn the unit back on and see if this fixes the problem, if it doesn't then you will have to go into the computer and clear the c-mos this will allow you to get into the bios screen from there you can set up the computer again. Check you manual for the instructions on bios reset, most times it is just pins 2+3 that need to have a jumper installed to reset it. READ THE MANUAL PINS 2+3 APPEAR ON MANY THINGS ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD

If you are getting through the bios before it shuts down, you may want to make sure that the CPU cooling fan is working and that there is plenty of airflow around the CPU heat sink. Make sure the reset and power buttons are working properly as well. Check that all of your RAM modules and any add on cards are seated properly as well.

Does not shut down, the CPU fan keeps working for ever

it seems that you shutdown command is corrupted with virus
try the following

Usage: shutdown [-i | -l | -s | -r | -a] [-f] [-m \\computername] [-t xx] [-c "comment"] [-d up:xx:yy]
No args Display this message (same as -?) -i Display GUI interface, must be the first option -l Log off (cannot be used with -m option) -s Shutdown the computer -r Shutdown and restart the computer -a Abort a system shutdown -m \\computername Remote computer to shutdown/restart/abort -t xx Set timeout for shutdown to xx seconds -c "comment" Shutdown comment (maximum of 127 characters) -f Forces running applications to close without warning -d [u] [p]:xx:yy The reason code for the shutdown
u is the user code
p is a planned shutdown code
xx is the major reason code (positive integer less than 256)
yy is the minor reason code (positive integer less than 65536)

I would check the bios and see what the shutdown temps are for the cpu as they may be set too low ( check the manuals for the cpu's as you dont want to set it too high as obviously if it does get too hot you dont want the cpu's ( processors ) to blow up or die on you.

I HAVE P5RD1-VM ASUS BOARD NOW COMPUTER STARTED PROBLEM

Hi,

several reasons for this.

1:) CPU Overheating.
2:) RAM Overheating.
3:) Motherboard Component Overheating.
4:) FAN not operating correctly.

These are a few things that can shutdown a computer after a few minutes, also viruses/trojans et,c.
can shut off hard-drives. and even instruct the bios to change settings.

Check that the CPU And case fans work correctly.

SYSTEM ERROR

1) if you have nothing in a USB port you will need to set bios
Try removing M/board battery for 2 to 3 hours some people say less then replace it most times it should set BIOS back to default
also check setup of hard disks master slave etc

Last resort with 15 seconds you should be able to see
press ?? key to access BIOS next boot keep pressing key see if that works
