removing and putting back the camera battery doesn't solve the problem (which occured while
    doing a photo).

  • Sokowek Sep 16, 2008

Cleaning did not help. It looks as this is some
major technical problem. The camera worked well
for the last year and half till last Saturday when after doing a few photos the lens did not close and retreat.

  • Sokowek Sep 16, 2008

Point number 7. fixed the problem. There was a uneven space between lenses which after a gentle tap locked in back into the right position.
    Thanks,
    Eva

Try resetting the camera and see if this will fix the problem.
1. Press Menu
2. Select the "Setup" tab, select "Reset", and then press the triangle play button
3. use the up and down arrow to select "Reset" and then press SET.

There's a possibility that there's some dirt get in to your lens , that's why it wont close now , so the next xtep that you can do here is to do some cleaning on that camera lens if you have any experience in cleaning a caemar lens like that you can go ahead and dismantle it then clean the l;ens using an ethyl alcohol , but if you're not familiar with that better ask someone who have experience with that type of cleaning....

Hope that helps...........

    1. If your camera is still under warranty, the best thing you can do
is to take it to the nearest official repair shop and they should fix
      it for free.

    2. If your camera is out of warranty, or if the manufacturer refuses
to repair it for free (happens sometimes if for example they suspect
the camera has not been treated properly) you can try the following
      methods to repair it yourself.

    3. First, make sure your camera has fresh batteries and it is in recording mode.

    4. Remove the batteries from the camera, wait for a couple of minutes, then put them back in and turn the camera on.

    5. Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun and dry compressed
air (20 lbs) set the tip between the lens turret and the camera body
and turn on the air while moving the tip around the lens. It should
remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on and it should function
      fine.

    6. Another method is to tap the padded USB cover part on a hard surface, for example, a desk. Sounds simple, but it works.

    7. Try forcing the camera lens. Turn off the camera. Place it on the
back with the lens facing up and take a look at the spacing between the
lens and the lens housing. If you notice that the gap is not even all
the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to fix. This type
of a problem usually occurs if the camera was dropped while the lens
was extended. Simply - VERY GENTLY - press down the lens on the side
where the gap is the biggest. You should hear a "click" as it pops back
into place. Try powering the camera back on.

    8. If the lens doesn't extend at all or it extends, and then retracts
again, do the following. Turn the camera off. Take the camera in one
hand and with the other gently take one part of the lens and gently
move it round in a circular movement. Do so with both sections of the
lens. You will hear a "click" as it pops back in place. Power the
      camera on.

    9. Another version of this fix would be to pull and twist on the
largest ring of the lens while turning the camera on. Listen for a
"click". If at first the focus seems to be off, turn the camera on and
off and take lots of pictures, close ups and distance. Focus should
      slowly start improving.

How to unlock the casio exilim camera ex-z850

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Dropped camera on wood floor, now it beeps when I press on but nothing happens. Telescopic lens does not close. Cannot see images or take pics.

Both of those are "lens errors". That's what happens when your lens has had damage done to it. The only way to fix it is to send it into repairs. Call repairs at 800-706-2534 option 2 and they can tell you where to send it.

You have to send it in to repairs. You're lucky that the lens even still comes out.
