Dell Dimension 8300 w/ Win XP Professional. Replaced original cd drive in "slave" position with LG GH20. Computer not recognizing hardware in BIOS. What to do?

I installed the same burner with the same problem with my Dell. Yes, it is Windows XP. It does come with a CD, however, there are NO drivers on the CD. All the CD does is get you to laod Nero Smart Start and Cyberlink DVD Suite. I connected through the SATA wire which was provided. It does have power, as the light comes on the unit when powered up. I am trying one more time, before I give up and take it back.

Same here. Running a P4 2.8 with XP Home. Serial DVD from LG with power and not being recognized in the auto detect or in bios. I don't see drivers on the CD. Searching web. Anyone find a fix to this yet? 02-07-09

Fixed... sort of. Had to remove all IDE cd drives. Go to BIOS and make sure SATA is enabled. Restart. Shut down. Then plug DVD in only. Took it with XP drivers but now I can not use a CD rom I had. Thus I have 1 HD and 1 DVD. Not 1 DVD and 1 CD rom drive. Too fed up to investigate it any further. Took a lot of BIOS tweaking to get it to run. Not worth the effort in hindsight.

Is it a SATA or IDE drive. ( Type of cable it plugs in with.)

May need to restart and go into BIOS (press delete (maybe f8 or f12 on DELL not sure) as soon as something pops up on the screen before the blue WINDOWS name and logo come up. My SATA option was under the 3rd section on left side of teh BIOS window. Had to enable SATA. (Factory default was disabled) Any luck?

Also does the device manager in "control settings" show it but with a yellow ! exclamation mark?

Did you get and cd along with the drive from where you bought it ??
try to see in that ..the driver must be surely present there....
btw what is the operating system you are running on your dell...most of the operating system automatically detects any hardware changes....

just also see in bios whether your drive is detected at start up.

We manually installed a sony cd/dvd rewriteable drive into our toshiba laptop from our dell laptop and it is saying that it failed installing. What does that mean? HELP PLEASE

There could be server issues. First off alot of times with Notebook computers the ROM drives are made for a certain series of computer. So even if the connector looks the same the drive my not be compatible with the system.

The other issue is the drivers for the drive. It is possible that Toshiba notebook does not have all the drivers needed to properly run the drive. You might look on the download page for the Dell computer to see if the drivers you need are there. Note if all you see if the firmwares do not install those as that is for the hardware of the drive its self and not the drivers you need to make the drive function.

If you still have trouble let me know the models of your 2 computers and the model info off the drive from the Dell computer.

Dell dimension 4700

try a different program, that will narrow the problem down.
InfraRecorder is a universally functioning open source program you could try.
If you get another error with a different program, make sure to post it.

Newly installed LG DVD drive not playing DVDs

Ok some where on the DVD drive ther is a diagram of those 6 pins and the jumper. Or if you look on the bottom and the top of the drive you may see 3 abbreviations as follow MA, SL, CS. Place the jumper verticle on the pins that are directly above or below CS. That refers to those pins for the jumper to be on for the drive to be set to Cable Select mode. Cable Select means whatever part of the cable the drive is on it will automatically set the drive to Master or Slave.

New CD R/RW drive will not let XP Boot

on the back of the new drive usually is a set of tiny pin jumpers, and a diagram for it on the drive, you might have to switch the pin jumper to "cs" cable select or "slave" usually master is for the hard drive. If that didnt do it then while the computer is booting hit f-8 or maybe f-9 and get into your bios area, search for boot sequence and study the area in there and see if your drives listed, try and change the config there so your hard drive(c) boots first, then usually your new drive. hopefully one of those ideas gets ya going, good luck

Start-Control pannel-System-Hardware tab(I don't know how it appears in english, bcause I have a Spanish O.S)

Then you will se a list of your hardware.

Look for DVD-CD drives and double clik to see if a driver is installed and corresponds with your hardware.

You have few possibilities:

1) an exclamation mark appears near the drive: this means that the driver was not properly installed: In that case double click and sear for a new driver

2) You have a driver that doesn't correspond to your harware:
Do the same as 1)

2) The drive installed is the correct one: The problem can be a hardware one.Note the exact name of the driver and the version and go to LG site and look for a new one

3) No DVD/CD drive appears in the list: Go to Start_control pannel_ add hardware and let windows search for your DVD and install the apropiate driver.Stay connected to Internet to let the system search on MS .

Hope that will help
