Question about BenQ FP71G 17" LCD Monitor

Hi there,

Not too sure where in the U.S to get replacement transistors on this board. Are there any compatible transistors that can be used? Any ideas would be appreciated.

You did not specify the transistor. But this site may help. You can download a quickcross reference software that will give you the replacement parts that you need.

Hi mstevens376,
Power on the unit in the dark room then shine with the flashlight directly in the screen, you will barely see the images. This is because your backlight is not functioning. The following reason is the caused.
1. Power supply - missing B+(supply voltage) coming from this board feeding the inverter board. This is caused by faulty transistor, dried/leaky electrolytic capacitor, open fusible resistor.
2. Inverter board - even the B+ is good from the power supply, if the fuse, driver transistor, driver transformer is faulty no output to the backlight resulting to black picture.
3. Busted backlight - even inverter board is good but if this is busted resulting to black picture also.
Diagnosing the fault is technical and if you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't fix it yourself, I would advice you to look for an experienced technician to isolate the problem.

Viewsonic VX924 monitor SMPS failed. Replaced all bad capacitors and have found that one pair of inverter driver transistors has failed. They are marked as DKQR (They are apparently Rohm 2SC4672...

When the DC filter caps no longer filter out high frequency AC, that AC will be fed through out the circuits and cause damages such as the inverter frequency will be running at the wrong frequency and caused overheating.
The service manual does not show the sch of the power supply/inverter board because it is not designed by Viewsonic.

My LGFlatron W2234S won't come on and instread the power light just flashes. Can you tell me what to do?

the blinking light of the power led means that the start voltage was not working properly, if you are a trained tech you can repair this monitor, but if you are a simple user it's dangerous, there is high voltage inside. cause of blinking light :
  1. puffed capacitor on the power supply
  2. broken FBT on the inverter board
  3. broken transistor on the inverter board
  1. replace or repair the power board
  2. replace or repair the inverter

Did the new transistors shorted out? You maut make sure to checkt the gray tuning caps in the inverter output sections, if they are bad, the inverter will run at the wrong frquency and burns uo the transistors. You also need to look real close at the solder joints in the inverter sections, especially around the inverter transformers.
12vdc is OK?

You may be better off getting the replacement board:

Or just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current, long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.

The power button on my monitor flashes but will not trun on

There is a chance that you may have a couple bad capacitors on the power-inverter board but more than likely the problem will be a shorted out transistor. There are 4 on the inverter side of the board and one set may have gone bad. Capacitor problems may have caused the transistors to fail. Transistors are probably c5706 or c5707 and are black with 3 legs going though the board.
You would have to open it up to check and would need an ohm meter to verify if the transistors are shorted out.

Replacing transistors would be the last thing in that troubleshooting. First, check all electrolytic capacitors if there are any of them "bubbled", replace those. Next, if there is the fuse used for supplying DC voltage to the inverter area, take it off and check if LED will still blink as before. If there's no such fuse, you can cut the trace, supplying DC voltage to the inverter, another words, you need to unload inverter from power supply and check LED behavior then, if it will stay steady, then next steps will be to troubleshoot the inverter, otherwise, using ohmmeter ring all capacitors and diodes in the power supply part, especially connected to PWM chip at primary side of pulse transformer. By the way, what kind of chip is there?

BenQ FP731 17" Inverter transistors

T751,752,753,753 are the transformers to be resoldered ,and resolder Transistors Q759,60,39,40,43,51.
Please check them with a multimeter if you are adept .

Dear Friend:
There is a Switch transistor to power on -off the hi voltaje for lights. Check 15V from power source go to this transistor colector, Using soldering Iron, make a juntion between colector and emiter, to short 15V to Hi voltaje power. I´m fixing 10 monitor the same trouble. I will remove a liter transistor.
Late I will post here the driver transistor number, and the replace number transistor I will use.

We recently come across this problem - and like many others - looked online for a solution without much luck. So it was a clear case of fault finding. The symptoms of the indicator changing from amber to green on signal indicated a problem with the powersupply/inverter board, and not the smaller signals processing board, so that's where we started. On careful testing it soon became clear that the black picofuse (just above the main transformer) was blown. This indicated a major fault in the backlight driver circuit. There are two independant yet identical circuits that drive the backlights - this made testing easy. We found that the two driver transistors marked C5707 were almost completely shorted. You will identify these as being two of four identical black components with a built in heat sink at each end of a grey 0.22 Microfarad capacitor - looking much like bookends! Replacing these C5707 transistors with BD139 transistors (Note: these are constructed mirror image to the original transistors - fit them backwards to the original transistors !) and replacing the 3 Amp picofuse with a 1 ohm 1 watt resistor completely solved the problem ! - Colin Knight, Radtvid Electronics, South Africa.
