Hi gregg.
First if you want to blame somebody you will blame Apple , as my post was an extract from
Apple - Support - iPhone - Phone TroubleshootingThen I would like to know at what step of procedure below it started freezing, if it is after reinstalling software, than probably you did not reinstall Itunes properly. Itunes is ininfluent on the Iphone working, it is only used to manage Iphone from computer.
Repeat steps from 4 to 6,
if Iphone is frozen, unplug it from pc, and try restarting the Iphone. Also reinstall Itunes and connect Iphone to pc.
The procedure below is the reset recommended by apple to the standard user, and do not involve any operation that is dangerous for your Iphone.
The reset published here by apple cannot damage the iphone even if you do them wrong.
If the Iphone freezes after reset, it means that the firmware was damaged already, and resetting the iphone just caused a defective firmware not to work
Reinstalling Firmware can probably fix it, but that yes, that is a risky procedure.
If you do not do firmware reinstall properly you can damage the phone.
For this reason I will only post links on the argument.
Try again hold the SLEEP/WAKE button and the Homebutton for ten secs, it must not go off, it must reset.
Try using the computer to reset Iphone again, see if this work.
On firmware :
How To Install IPhone Firmware
IPhone Firmware Download LinksI post again reset procedure here for reference:
1 Try restarting iPhone. To turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wakebutton until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across theslider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone on, press and hold theSleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
2 Try pressing and holding the Home button for at least 6 seconds toclose a frozen application. Then try restarting iPhone following thesteps outlined above.
3 To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Homebutton at the same time for at least 10 seconds. During this time, ared "power off" slider may appear and the screen may go black, but donot release Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.
4 Reset settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings Note: This will reset all settings. No data or media will be deleted.
5 If that does not resolve your issue, try erasing all content and settings.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Contents and Settings
Note: This will delete all media and data. All settings will be reset as well.
6 Try restoring iPhone using the
latest version of iTunes. Connect iPhone. When it appears in the Source list, click on Restore in the Summary tab.
Ifthe 6 steps above did not solve the problem , then the Iphone isprobably faulty , take it to a Apple repair shop, or call Apple servicephone number listed on the user guide.
