If there is noise please do not switch on unless you have confirmed the fault. It is possible that the Magnetron is leaking and sparking to the ground with a hiss. Also if stored it is quite possible that insect can get into the oven and create soft spots. When you switch on these will create a short and make the voltage jump and in the long run damage the magnetron.
So Remove cover after disconnecting , check for dirt/moisture in the cabin, if so wipe clean and dry, check the magnetron and area clean and use an jet air to clean off.
Now keeping clear switch on , use a cup of water inside to test.
If you notice any sparks shut off as the magnetron or the main HT capacitor can be faulty. replace with same type. Also check the wave gudie within the cabin for dirt of food accumulation, wipe clean and dry.
If there is heating without any issues , you can use the microwave safely.

Microwave won't heat food. Everything else works on it

Most likely it is a bad magnetron tube (the heart of a microwave oven - it's the part that generates the microwaves). If the microwave oven is not under warranty or not covered by a service contract or home-repair contract, then it will probably cost more to fix it than it is worth.

Food not getting heated

There are three common issues, magnetron "heats food" cracked high voltage diode, or a shorted high voltage capacitor. In order to find out you will need a professional to assess, it will be probably cheaper to replace the microwave oven.

I have jenn-air microwave oven model m167. Unit will come on and all programming works to heat food. Oven acts as if it is heating food, however it does not cook or heat food items. Any help with...

It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 on high resistance range for short circuit, the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.

Doesn't heat up food

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Microwave not heating properly is caused by a power relay going bad, cold solder joint on the board and/or magnetron (this is only if it makes a loud hum/buzz sound). Also the door hooks and the door-release button should be checked. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Microwave has works but doesn't heat

Sounds like the Magnetron has stopped working. The Magnetron is is a specially designed powerful magnet that generates the high frequency microwave energy used to heat food.

My microwave oven is not heating the food

HI, you will need to replace the heating device. This device is called the Magnetron and, it will cost you about $133.00. This is a repairable issue but, you will need to call for service. I do not recommend installing this device if you are not familiar with handling this type of tech.

Microwave not heating food

It's most likely the Magnetron. The are not very easy to install and quite expensive. Older models magnetrons cost about 80 bucks from GE. It's probably not something you would want to try and repair yourself. Call a GE service person.

Motor sounds differently, smells like something is getting hot, won't heat the food

Do you have good air flow coming out of the vents?

If for some reason the cooling fan stopped working, it can cause the magnetron to overheat and be damaged.

If you don't still have your manual, you can download it here:

It will address ventilation issues.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.
