Sound very distorted, new motherboard and speakers fitted.

If the sound is distorted on all sources over both speakers then the speaker amp on motherboard is suspect. To eliminate bad laptop speaker possibility, try hooking up another audio source to the audio output of the laptop and hear what happens. If they also sound bad then the mo bo is definitely the culprit.

No audio output device is installed

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

Follow these steps to change the audio output settings for the HDMI option.
  1. Follow steps 1 through 8 above.
  2. From the Windows Vista™ default Start menu, click Control Panel.
    View Picture
  3. In Control Panel, using the default Control Panel Home setting, click Hardware and Sound.
    View Picture
  4. In the Hardware and Sound window, under Sound click Manage audio devices.
    View Picture
  5. In the Sound dialog box, click to select Digital Output Devices (HDMI).
    View Picture
  6. Click Set Default, and then click OK
    View Picture
Note: The default audio setting for your notebook is Speakers / Headphones.
You must change the audio output back to the Speakers / Headphones option for the computer to once again be able to use the internal speakers and headphone jack.

NO SOUND WHEN USING HDMI FROM PC TO HDTV (RUNNING VISTA)

When using an HDMI to DVI cable their is no audio that comes through that cable. Even if you use HDMI to HDMI most computers only have video output from HDMI. You will have to use a seperate audio cable for you to be able to get the sound to work. Depending on the output you have on your laptop you may have to resort to hooking up a pair of speakers to the headphone jack.

Hope this helps.
