Hi again, The MODEL NUMBER on the back of the radio is M33GMC09C2AA. I think this radio may have been in a boat at one time. altho ony six channels in a boat radio in AUSTRALIA is unusual.

    Thanks again douggie11

If you would supply the model number of the radio, we could tell you what frequency band it is in. However, the only way to conclusively tell what frequency and/or PL code is programmed into each channel is to have a dealer "read out" the radio using Motorola software. The GM300 is a programmable radio and could be program to any frequency within the individual radio's range.

Your radio with model number M33GMC09C2AA is a GM300 made for Central Asia, Eastern Europe and Turkey. It is VHF 25 watt with 12.5 channel spacing. It will do frequencies between 146-174 MHz. It should be able to be "read out" by a Motorola dealer. If it has been in a boat, it most likely is programmed with Marine frequencies. If you have another marine radio you may be able to determine the frequency by process of elimination.

The wiring kit for power is readily available for around $18 ea. If your boat has a marine VHF antenna onboard, you will be able to attach the antenna to this radio. It takes a mini-PL connector.

The frequency range and operatngmode of the two radios are compatible. To get the Radius operating on a GMRS channel you'll need a Motorola programming cable and software, OR a trip to a Motorola dealer for frequency programming. Considering the cost involved, the 2-watt output of the Radius, and the 1-watt output of the Talkabout, you would be better off performance and cost wise buying a pair of 5-watt GMRS portables.

The GM300 is dealer programmable using Motorola proprietary software, a programming cable and radio interface box (rib). (Or on some models a ribless cable). I will continue to look for a user guide pdf. If I locate one I will post it.

Motorola GM300 Question

Check your antenna connections and coax for loose connections or damage. Also check your hand mic. See if the problem disappears if you turn on the radio without the mic attached. The two most common problems with a mobile radio are antenna and mic problems.

If you feel these are in order, it would be wise to have a tech look at the radio.

It is either a programming problem, such as the Rx is not programmed correctly OR your radio needs to be looked at by a technician to determine the issue.
