I think this is the same problem. I have a GE JES1384SF microwave. One day the power went out. Microwave was plugged into a grounded plug in wall, not on a surge protector. After power returned on in house, everything worked except this microwave (which was only 2 months old at the time, and is still under the 1 year warranty). It is totally dead. I want to take this to a GE service center in the Detroit area (not have them come out) but cannot find a place where I can walk in with the microwave. Any suggestions? Any advise on what may need fixing?

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

It may be the fuse, which is usually located behind the grille or on the floor of the oven behind the control panel or between the door switches.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

When checking TCOs or thermostats, if it has a hood fan thermostat, that should read open, as opposed to the others, which should read closed.

The TCOs you need to be concerned usually with have all black or white wires only. Please reply with photos if you have questions.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

You should do a continuity test on the fuse while it's in the holder (with the microwave unplugged, of course) then turn the fuse by hand or take it out and put it back in, then test it again.

If you remove the fuse, then press the meter leads against the ends, it can allow internal contact to be made and make a bad fuse appear to be good.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

I can see the fuse , how do I get the front panel off my microwave.

Since you have the top grill off you are almost there. Make sure the plug is out or breaker off. There should be 1 screw at the top center of the control panel. Remove screw and lift up on the control panel. It should lift and then tilt towards you so you can access the fuse.

I have a GE 1650 black microwave and is not heating anything. I heated a potato and after it was finished, the microwave went off. Thought maybe a fuse, but not is goes on though nothing is being heated....

It is possible that your magetron is not working.First of all disconnect the power, open the top,if you had checked the fuse to be good then check the high voltage power capacitor and teh wores to the magnetron. If all these seems fine then a voltge check must be made when the set works in microwave mode. Put in a cup of wter and switch on. If the relay does not click along with the fan coming on , then the relay circuit must be checked. If you are not familiar please take help as it is dangerous to probe without any klnowledge. I am sure there cannot be anything serious than a failure of the one of these. hope my advice helps you out. Good day

The microwave does not react what so ever. Checked the fuse and its fine, what could be the problem? please help

Is there power at the outlet? You say you checked the fuse ... is that the one inside the machine? Is the outlet protected by a GFI (reset for a GFI is on the GFI)? A GFI looks like a ordinary outlet but is very sensitive to electrical irregularities. Your circuit breaker may be on or your power panel fuse may be fine and the fuse inside your oven may be fine. If the GFI is popped, you have no power.

Try some other electrical device in the outlet. Does it work? Try an extension cord from a known hot outlet?

Beyond these tips, you may need professional help with this.

Everything works except the cooking part/no heating/turntable not turning, help!

you may have gotten a power surge and that can cause some funny things to happen, 1st is there power to the oven, 2nd if so there may be an internal fuse protector built in to the oven, check with the manual for anything of that sort listed. if not you may have to take it in and have it repaired by a pro. there is a lot of voltage in these ovens and unless you know what you are doing a person could get hurt

Microwave won't heat anything

take the cover off the machine and look for a 13amp fuse that supplys the tranformers. BEWARE!!!
when you open the machine disconnect from the mains and do not touch the high power circuits the capacitors can hold a charge that can kill.

I have a goodmans microwave. a few weeks ago i opened the door and it blew the fuses. i have changed the fuse in the plug but still no power going to unit, please can u tell me if there is any fuses...

Firstly check the light.

As the light comes on when the door is opened - this could be the cause.

If that's ok, you could open it up to check the condition of the wiring, and that the door interlock is functioning.
As long as you don't damage anything, or remove the magnatron you should be fine.

I don't think there are any other fuses inside this model.

If it's anything else I would not attempt repair.

Double check that all is secure before using again - and turn off BEFORE opening the door each time.
