Question about PNY XLR8 NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card

1 Answer

8800gt black screen

I just bought a PNY 8800gt graphics card to replace my 8600gt. I plugged it in, and when I turned on the computer, the screen was blank. It wasn't getting a signal from the card. My motherboard (k9n6sgm-v) has an integrated video device (nvidia 6100) and it uses that one instead. I don't think it's a problem, though, because my old 8600 worked just fine there without the integrated graphics ever being involved. When I get to windows, the card isn't recognized. It's as though there was nothing in the PCI-E slot. I've tried flashing the bios to the latest version with no luck. I've also made sure the card is getting enough power (525W PSU). Everything works perfectly, except the card just doesn't appear to be working. It's as if it wasn't plugged in the PCI-E slot at all. Can you help me out here?

Hi Juan016, you have done everything right. I'd say the 8800GT is bad & return it for a refund. Run the 8600GT & the NVIDIA 6100 at the same time. If you check the middle of page 9 in your manual. NOTE: It states; if a PCI-E is inserted the bios will automatically run the PCI-E card. (No need to make a bios setting change).
It also says if you change the setting in the bios to, OnChip and PCIe VGA, the motherboard should run both. Depending what amount of memory you set the NVIDIA to run with. Once in windows check the amount of total memory the NVIDIA or 8600GT reports.
Example: You set the NVIDIA to use 64MB & the 8600GT has 512MB than the NVIDIA or the 8600GT should show 576MB. Its not that uncommon one buys a bad video card.
Reading the manual & windows not seeing the 8800GT tells me the bios did not see the 8800GT card. The card is bad. You’re doing just fine.

Try using onboard graphics on the mainboard that you think is faulty, remember to remove your Graphics card when you use onboard.

I have published a guide that may help you to further find and possibly fix your computer, my guide is entitled My Computer is not turning on!!! Is it dead!!! No POST!!!

My cousin recently upgraded his PNY video card, so he gave me his old one. It's a VDCARD, 8800, GTS 640MB PCIE. When I try and install it in my TA760G M2+ (Biostar) motherboard it makes a loud, cringing...

This Graphics card needs a system with at least a 450Watt power supply. As your cousin upgraded to a newer card, we can therefore assume that this card works and the problem lies with your computer. The power supply being the most obvious. I recommend a Cooler Mater Extreme Power Plus 460W or greater.

quite right you are ,, it is a G-card problem,, and its supposed to get hot but not very very very hot !!! thats way too hot,, chances are the fan aint cooling it propperly,, or it could be the card is just no good.. I myself only use Radion cards,, but i know these are expensive so a lot of ppl use G-Force in brands such as PNY.. If i were you i would get a new card ,, but before i came out with that extra money I would remove the fan from the graphics card,..,, attach a bigger one for a pc case ,, then i would power it by connecting it directly to my computers power supply.. and hope that saves the extra money.. Let me know what happens ,, Regards dark..

I need the fan size and voltage for a PNY 8500 GT so I can buy a replacement, but it doesn't seem to be listed anywhere

you have to find out which producer of cooling you want,fx Zalman ,northQ....
Than you have to look on there homepage for a list of compatible produkt list for your card.
Almost any gfx cooling producer makes a model for the 8800gt.
I prefer zalman....they looks great and easy to install.

When i boot the screen colour goes off

Try it with another monitor if possible and see if the colour gets messed up with that screen as well. If you cannot try that, visit

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

And get the correct and newest drivers for your 8800GT. Select the right operating system and install them. It should work. If not, let me know!
