This seems to be a windows problem and microsoft have provided a fix for this. The steps are a bit tedious to do though but should fix the problem that you are having. Here's the link to the Microsoft Website that will fix this issue. Just follow the steps indicated on the knowledgebase article and you should be good to go.

I assume this appears on your computer shortly after you power it on, but before it would normally load the desktop. If so, the easy solution is to reinstall the computer. The specific error you're getting is telling you that while windows was loading up, it couldn't read your drive. It's either missing files, or it has become corrupted.
However, if you reinstall it, you'll first need to backup all your data. There is another method you can try also. Many times, dell will give you a real windows cd with your computer, and label it a restore disk. If so, you can put in the CD, and boot from it. It will open a windows installation screen, and you can choose to do a repair install. Be cautioned though; by pressing the wrong buttons in that installation screen can make you lose all your files! So be careful.

From the sounds of it you may have to just reinstall windows. If you do not have the recovery disk you can purchase them from HP for 5.oo USD.

Unmountable boot volume

hi,

-this can be a hardware problem or a software problem
-run diagnostics first on the computer
-turn off computer; while the computer is off, press and hold the "Fn" key then press power at the same time to initialize the test
-if you find error message like 0142 - this is a hard drive failure; contact your manufacturer for replacing your hard drive
-if no error is found, it is a corrupted Windows; you need to reinstall Windows, ensure you consult local technician to back-up files before installation.

cheers!

Computer won't boot into windows

The event of you inserting a DVD is unlikely to have anything to do with this problem. Probably just a coincidence that it happened after you did so. Hard drives die eventually and more frequently so in laptops.  I'm afraid you will have to bite the bullet and replace the hard drive.

Hi

It looks you have a bad hard drive. Have you tried changing it? If not, try it. Regards.
