You need to turn on your password feature.

How can I secure my router through WPA or WPA2?

  1. Make sure your computer is connected by wire to the NETGEAR router or modem router
  2. Open Internet Explorer
  3. Type into the address bar www.192.168.0.1 or www.192.168.1.1 (depending on the product) and hit ENTER.
Unless you've configured otherwise, the default username is admin and the password password.
  1. On the left-hand side, under Setup, click "Wireless Settings"
  2. Under "Security Options", select your desired encryption method (preferably WPA2-PSK)
  3. Choose a Network Key - it can be anything, as long as it's 8-63 characters in length
  4. Hit Apply
  5. Now on the computers you wish to connect to over wireless, repeat the process

Make it secure by,

access the netgear router configuration page (you need to do this hardwired)

1. check your IP address, click start -> all programs -> accessories -> command prompt
2. in the black box (command prompt) type in ipconfig and hit enter
3. look for the value of Default Gateway (that's your routers IP address)
4. open an internet browser and go to that address

for more detailed instructions, visit www.netgear.com and select your router model and choose supports & downloads

Vidios on youtube stop for two or three minutes at a time, why?

Hello,
This account for many things but most times it is slow Internet connection. Video take up a lot of bandwidth. If you are downloading a video AND veiwing other websites AND someone else is using a laptop, your bandwidth is narrowed down a lot.

Option 1. Increase your bandwidth - upgrade to a faster Internet speed.Option 2. Close programs not in use.

One final option is to refresh the connection. Unplug power from your modem for 1 min, plug back in and retry your download.

Good Luck

We're adding another coputer to the system at our house. How do we set up wireless on this computer. We already have wireless on the original computer. Do we need certain numbers to set this up? I'm...

You must have a wireless adapter installed in your new PC. Assuming there is already one, then you need to identify what type of security you use with your wireless router.
If you don;t have any security installed, then you can just search for wireless access points and then you should be able to connect to your router. The danger with not having security is others can also easily connect to your router and network and possibly hacked to your systems and also eat up on your internet bandwidth.
The easiest security is to have a password installed before you can access the router. When you search for wireless, you just choose your wireless and then you must know the password so you can access it. You can save the password so don't have to do it everytime you connect. There's still a possibility though that someone can hacked your password, but not likely in a regular environment.

Another option is to register the MAC address of all of your PC in the router so only your own PCs can connect. This is a little bit more technical though so you may want to hire a tech for this.

Trying to access the wireless using my netgear rangemax and need some kind of password or key..can u help?

You need the wireless security key from your wireless router. Log in to your wireless router using the admin login. Look for something like "wireless security" (depends on the brand and model) and look for WEP. The key settings should be there.

Problem connectiong to DHCP server and acquiring a network address from router. using netgear router and linksys adapter. ICS

Hi There,

Your router, is it wireless?... anyway take a look at the security settings. I think that you have setup up your security setting with a wep key. If so than you need to enter a pass work into your computer to access the router for it to assign a IP address.

Let me know if you need more help.

Regards,

Philip
