A "hub" just "splits" the Internet connection.
Each computer connected to the hub gets an IP-address from your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
However, some ISPs only allow each customer to use _one_ IP-address.
Ask your ISP for the capability to obtain a second IP-address.
please check following points:- 1) IP address (some wireless AP's follows ip address such as 192.168.1.1 for AP and 192.168.1.2 for 1st workstation, 192.168.1.3 for 2nd workstation and so on). 2) check connection options in IE. it should be lan setting and detect automatic setting and use automatic configuration script(put IP address of AP) 3) if DHCP is enabled then obtain IP automaticlly 4) check for any WEP security options i AP. 5) user must have internet access rights. 6) if Static IP is Used please give gatway ip (your AP's IP address) and same for DNS IP address. then restart your system and enjoy internet.
assuming you have set up the router to enable DHCP which automatically detects pc's and assigns an automatic ip address, and assuming you are using XP and not Vista, although the workthrough is similair; go to open internet explorer>tools>internet options>connections tab and ensure that never dial a connection is ticked, then apply and exit IE
Next go to control panel>network connections, double click your wireless connection icon, select the TCP/IP line and click properties, then make sure obtain an ip address automatically is ticked, apply it ok, then open IE again and click the refresh button a few times.
Go to control panel, click on network and internet connections
at the bottom of the window click network connections
right-click on local area connection then click properties
in the preview pane select 'internet protocol (TCP/IP)'
click properties
make sure that 'obtain an ip address automatically' and 'obtain a dns server address automatically' are both selected then click OK.
He might have specified and configured your laptops IP to his Home IP.
This is easily fixed by: Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections Tab > LAN Settings > check the Automatically detect settings
Also you might want to check: Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right Click on a Connection > Properties > Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then make sure its set to Automatically obtain IP address.
*note* do this for your home one and delete your son-in-law's connection. If you don't know which is which just leave them and see what connect's then delete the others.
