Question about KitchenAid KSM150PS Artisan Series Stand Mixer
The mixer works but is a little noisy in the gearing. It is leaking a brown oil like substance onto the area where you attach the beaters. oil leaks onto the counter.
From what I see, the "O" ring on the vertical center shaft that could be the problem and/or the transmission case gasket. I will let you know what i find when I venture into my mixer. Also, if you decide to try and repair your mixer, plan on replacing the nylon worm gear while you have it apart. Aparently they are known to strip or break. The cost should be minumal for all parts depending on your model, worm gear is between $14.00 to $25.00, the "O" ring maybe $1.00 at your local hardware store and the transmission gasket should be about $5.00. Mixer grease is $17.00 but I think I can find a sutible substitute locally. Check out http://www.goodmans.net/get_list_10.htm for more information and parts.

I can understand that to some extent if it's not use but I use my mixer several times a week and really has no time to dry up. I have posted a complaint to the consumer safety commission. I don't care if they say the oil is FDA certified so it's OK if it gets in your food. Who knows what other contaminants it's dragging in with it. That's totally crazy that it should be acceptable to have internal motor oil leak into your food.

The solution?...the oil leak is a very common problem with the kitchen aid mixer. If you don't use your mixer a lot the gasket dries out and the gear casing oil leaks. Doesn't that sound like a tasty ingredient to add to your cookies?? You'd think that a gasket wouldn't dry out so quickly...but it does. You'll spend about $125 to get it fixed at a shop. If you seach the net (consumeraffairs.com) you'll find hundreds of complaints just like yours....and mine. Kitchen Aid's response is basically tough luck, we got your money.
