Question about Yamaha HTR-5550 Receiver

1 Answer

Volume control on unit

The Volume control on my Yamaha HTR-5550 no longer works (actually tends to turn the volume up no matter which way you turn it. Control from the remote is fine, but there are times when it would be handy to just reach out and turn it down with the knob.

Any simple solutions?

Thanks Kent

The volume control on mine is broken too, where do you get the part?

Remote works fine but volume control has to be done manually. Is it the tuner volume control or the remote?

Does the remote increase volume control need to be replaced? Volume control works when done manually. Is there a motor that controls the volume control?

Kent, Unfortunately, it sounds as if the encoder is broken. The encoder is a digital input which takes the place of a traditional volume control, and is what holds the volume knob in place and spins. Since it works fine with the remote, that means everything else is ok, but you will have to replace, or have a tech replace, the encoder itself.

My Yamaha HTR 6130 surround sound amp just froze up on me and won't turn off or on or control the volume ect. I'ts on but will not do anything, I can't control from remote or the unit itself at all.

HI
i think the unit needs to be set back to factory defaults
procedure is
Initializing the HTR 6130

1. Connect the power cable of this unit to the AC outlet.
2. Press the "STANDBY/ON" key while simultaneously pressing the "STRAIGHT" and "AUDIO SELECT" keys.
The self-diagnostic function is activated.
3. Select the main menu "13. FACTORY PRESET".
4. Select the "PRESET RSRV".
Hope this helps
Kind regards.

I have a yamaha "htr-5630"

NEVER USE MAXIMUM VOLUME FOR TROUBLESHOOTING. The errant switch or control that you eventually find and flip will suddenly release the amp's full power and you'll destroy your speakers. If a signal isn't audible at 1/2 volume, for all intents and purposes it's not there.

Look for a misplaced Mute or Tape Monitor control or Multichannel Analog Input selected.

There is a good chance that a common control may have developed a high-resistance or 'dead' spot through idleness and is causing your symptom. Turn the POWER OFF and operate every control throughout its range a number of times, especially rarely-used ones like Tape Monitors and the Mute control.

Turn the volume to something reasonable and see if that helped.

We have to hold the remote control button hard and straight at the reciever for ti to work

The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.

The volume control knob fell off can i buy a new one model htr 5860 yamaha

Sometimes volume controls are held on by an Allen type screw, which can become loose, allowing it to fall off. You should see a hole in the knob if it is. You might need a long thin Allen Key to get it back on.
Otherwise have checked my spares guide (though it's a few years old) and it seems Yamaha might only do their own spares.
