Question about Canon EOS 30D Body Only Digital Camera

Canon AF Issues

Hi,

I am using a 30D with a 17-85 lense, recently when I attempt to take a long range shot the camera/lense will not lock in and focus. The lense will move back in forth and unable to lock on a focal point. I have tested and it is only happening on long shots, if I zoom in on say an item 25-50 feet away it is fine but when I go outside that range it cannot get focused.

Thanks in advance for your assitance.

Kevin

I'm having the same problem. And the 30D back focuses in AF. Fully frustrating!

My Canon EOS 30D has the same issue - often 'searches' for correct focus, especially in low-light/high ISO situations. About 50% of my photos are out of focus just enough to be really frustrating when shot in AF mode.

No matter what lens I attach, my canon 30D auto focus is unreliable. We sent it to be "cleaned", and it worked for a few weeks without a problem, but now it is back to the same old tricks. It's extremely annoying, particularly when you need to focus on something quickly or in low light.
    Any other suggestions?

Change from auto focus to manual focus or focus using only one focal square and change the setting to One Shot. You may need to shoot in Manual (M) mode though. Any of the "auto" modes will not let you.

After 6 years my Canbonb 30D is presenting some shots as blank images.

I am sorry to say that it is not getting any younger but neither am I. Take it to the shop and let them have a quick look at it, may not be all bad news.

My canon 30D comes up with err 99 pleas help

My first stab at guessing would be the older-style lens can't communicate to the 40D, resulting in a read error. Any problem when using other newer lenses?

Try doing a full format of the card using the camera - don't just delete all images. Then re-zero the shot count. See if that helps.

I have a canon 40D and it will not shoot in auto focus .. was working fine today and just stopped. will not do anything set on AF but in manuel it will ,,, Help !

A couple of possible reasons:
You are trying to take the shot with the lens too close to the subject. If you attempt to take a shot with AF on while too close then the camera won't take the photo. Try backing up from the subject a bit.
Which camera mode are you in? If you are using the green box (automatic) mode then in very low-light settings the camera may refuse to take the photo.
The AF on your lens might be broken. Try using a different lens (if you have one available). Do other lenses have the same problem?

30D locks up and won't take pictures.

are you taking photos of still or moving subjects? One shot is suitable for still subjects, someone sitting down or still life shots. The camera will balk at you if you are constantly panning or have moving items in the fiewfinder field of the focus points and it is set in one-shot mode.
try changing to AI Servo and see if the problem continues.

I don't understand the numbers of the drive ISO ?

You can get a manual from the manufacturer's web site at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=314&modelid=12929

AF allows you to select between the various autofocus modes. WB allows you to set the white balance, to compensate for the color of the light. Drive allows you to select the drive mode, from single to continuous to remote. ISO allows you to set the sensor sensitivity, similar to choosing film speed for analog cameras.
