Question about HP LaserJet 1100 Printer

Hp printer 1100: new cartridges: print very light

I purchased a new cartridge for my HP 1100 printer, pulled the silver tape until it was full extended and removed from the cartridge, i installed it and the print was very light. I printed the page discribing the printer and it was much earsier to read.
I returned the cartridge to Staples and they replaced it. Identicle print occurred with this new cartridge. I'm using the 600 x600 option. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
B.N.

I apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry. I have researched this matter for a number of hours, and then typed a fairly lengthy solution. For some reason, just before it was to be posted it disappeared. (We have to love these PC's, right?)

There are approximately a dozen specific models of the 1100. As you haven't indicated any specifics asde from 1100, and based on your description, I have worked with the understanding that the machine is an 1100. Most often, light printing is caused by issues with the cartridge, drum, or photosensors, as relevant, in addition to printer parts not being clean. These matters become nearly mute points, however, as you have indicated that the printing of the test page was approprate. It is important to remember, though, that when you put a new cartridge in, the toner should be distributed evenly by shaking gently left to right / side to side.

There are driver updates available for this model. Assuming an OS of XP, please see http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=14925&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25470&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228.
The last point & print bundle prior to this, on the product-specific page, was dated in 2002. Reference: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=14925&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25470&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228.
On this same page, you will find two tools at the top which could be quite helpful in evaluating the problem with your printer, under "Useful Links" - check to see if you need updated drivers on your system, and the second to help you locate the proper driver.

Have you atttempted to print either (1) from another application on the same PC or (2) by attaching the printer to another PC to test the print in this manner? Finally, "Fast" or "Economode" is a printing method which uses less ink and prints more quickly, however, it also then generally results in lighter output than a normal or fine print. Test pages are typically printed in fine mode, It would be fruitful to make sure that the printing preferences are set to normal or fine rather than economode, due to the need to determine the actual reason for your problem. I would also add that the problem appears to be between the printer and the PC, rather than strictly with the printer, given the status of the test page. Testing the printer with another PC may be one of the most valuable troubleshooting steps, and if there is still a problem, please switch the USB port, and the USB cable, with which the printer is communicating, in order to further eliminate these issues.

If this information assists you in resolving the problem, please take a moment to rate the solution at a "FixYa" level. If you do not feel that you can rate at a "FixYa", please post back with more information regarding what has occurred subsequently and/or more details regarding the situation, and I will gladly help you until we have reached a definitive solution. Thank you for using and rating FixYa!

How to change the ink cartridge

Follow these instructions when you need to replace print cartridges.

• Everyday printing: Use a black cartridge along with a tri-color cartridge.
• Color photos: Use a photo cartridge along with a tri-color cartridge.
To replace the print cartridges
1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is on.
CAUTION: If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door to
access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the cartridges for
changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print cartridges are not
docked safely when you try to remove them.
2. Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray.
3. Open the print cartridge door.
The print carriage moves to the far right side of the HP All-in-One.
4. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print
cartridge to release it.
If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the
slot on the left.
If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from
the slot on the right.
1 Print cartridge slot for the tri-color print cartridge
2 Print cartridge slot for the black and photo print cartridges
5. Pull the print cartridge towards you out of its slot.
6. If you are removing the black print cartridge in order to install the photo print cartridge,
store the black print cartridge in the print cartridge protector or an airtight plastic
container.
7. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only
the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab.
1 Copper-colored contacts
2 Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing)
3 Ink nozzles under tape
CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Also, do
not re-tape the print cartridges. Doing so can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad
electrical connections.
8. Hold the print cartridge with the HP logo on top, and insert the new print cartridge into
the empty cartridge slot. Make sure you push the print cartridge in firmly until it snaps
into place.
If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot.
If you are installing a black or photo print cartridge, slide it into the right slot.

What is the replacement printer for HP Laser Jet

This document provides information about replacing the print cartridge for the HP LaserJet 1010 printer series, including life expectancy and replacement instructions. Print cartridge life expectancy The life of the print cartridge depends on the amount of toner that your print jobs require. Printer will not print in black

I will try to help but when you installed the printer and the cartridges, did you remove meaning completely remove the tape on the printed circuit and nozzles of the cartridge? Did you remove all the tapes on the machine? It's not likely that the cartridge is defective when it is that new. Hope this helps.
