Have the same problem, not heating and humming noise when in use

Have the same problem, not heating and louder humming noise when in use. Everything else indicates it's working normally. Light comes on, table rotates, timer counts down. clock works. Went to heat water for tea on 2 minutes and after timer went off checked water and was ice cold. Tried again and noticed louder than normal humming noise from behind control panel. Tried unplugging, no change.

These answers will help me judge whether it's in the high voltage
section (magnetron, transformer, or diode) or the control section
(door switch or control board relay or connection).

  1. Every microwave I've seen has a fuse in the 110 VAC line. Remove the cover or access panels and look for a ceramic or glass tube fuse with metal end caps. Replace with the same value, which is often 20 Amps.

Model FMT148G1B2 - over range microwave will not heat food. Clock, lights, rotating plate in M/W all work, just will not heat/warm.

well that depends on the current. If the current is a fluctuating type then microwave wouldn't heat or else if high...please check..

Light on the bottom of microwave wont turn on. microve not working. got error F4. what should I do?

It depends on the brand and model, but if yours is a GE, F4 is a defective humidity sensor.

Assuming the light bulb is good, if it's not coming on, chances are a surge damaged the controller when it failed.

But we can usually repair these with out $39.95 nationwide repair service.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Feel free to contact me directly (and mention your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help. We have many service manuals which you can download.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

GE Microwave Model JE1640WA runs when the door is open only

You probably have a loose or broken door switch mount or the door may be slightly misaligned.

See:

and

and

Microve turns on, but will not heat Model number is FMT148G1B2 Everything seems to work except there's no heat. Clock works, countdown timer, light, turntable, etc., just no heat.

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwaves that heats the food.

The cost of the magnetron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave oven. Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing.

There is a possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.

Microwave sedems to be working but not heating

Chances are the problem is a loose connection on the magnetron, a bad high voltage diode, or a bad diode.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it is NOT shorted, it's probably fine)
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
