Question about Cooktops

1 Answer

Wiring size First, let me say I have been working in the electric field for over 40 years. Here's my dilemma. I bought an electric stovetop to replace a gas one. The directions are telling me to use #8 wire with a 40 amp breaker. The problem is the wire coming out of the stovetop is #10. Either directions are wrong or I am missing something. Did you ever see this?

I need instructions for wiring in replacing a dual burner switch on a CVE3400B cooktop. The replacement switch is different from the original. Do you have a diagram for the new switch that shows how to...

We followed the instructions that came with the switch that addressed a "compound wiring" configuration. We also used the black jumper wire as shown in the instructions.
We got to this solution in a trial by error manner though, because the three of us working the problem were convinced the stovetop was wired in a "piggyback configuration" and tried that road first. It would have been helpful if the instructions had included an explanation of the switch manufacturer's interpretation of "compound" and "piggyback" configuration.

The stovetop keeps throwing the breaker box and when i had my finance to turn it back on and i was looking at the stove it sparked from the knob area. can you you tell me what i can do to fix this problem

Replace the switch and the burner. You probably have a loose wire ... it is just a little more work and safer to replace both the switch and burner.

Wolf electric induction stovetop

I had that happen once and it went off after a day. I'd suggest maybe turning off the breaker and wait a few minutes and turn it back on. But here's my problem for you. I got the 30" model in March, 2008. The problem I've had is that the induction units cool down and start cycling when I'm cooking something like bacon, or pork chops etc., ie. where you're trying to brown something or sear. They cycle up and down every couple of minutes, so its really annoying. They work fine if I'm boiling water for pasta or sauces, etc. Have you experienced this. I've been working with the dealer and the company and they say its a "software" problem, but they've haven't taken them off the market. I use All-Clad stainless steel pans so that's not the issue. Thanks for your comments.

You probably still have cartridge fuses in your fusebox. This sounds like only one blew. This will let the lights and other 110 volt things work just fine. If you have circuit breakers it probably needs to be replaced. There are no internal fuses that involve the whole stove.
