Hi,
If it's not seen then:
1. Plugging wrong
2. Cable installed wrong or bad.
3. Bad drive.
4. Bad controller
Remove the cpu cover and check if the power cables and FRC cable is properly plugged in or not. also Check master/slave/CS jumper position. Try a different IDE cable. If your hard drive is in master then the other drive(cd-rom) should be in slave. If all the jumpers are removed then it means that slave. Try above steps. Hopefully it should work. Thank you.......

Why am I getting a white screen on startup but no desk top appearing?

If the laptop is under warranty, you may be able to get it fixed, but be sure to let them know if you have personal files that you don't want to lose.

Otherwise, the screen may be failing, or the hard drive may be failing, or just the OS or hard drive corrupted. You could try this... Pull the hard drive out, and use a USB Hard Drive Adapter to connect the hard drive to a friend's computer, and save all the personal files (documents, pictures, etc.) you can to a folder on the friend's computer or an external hard drive.
Then, you could try to do a Factory Restore on the computer, and if that works, copy your personal files back to your newly restored computer. If you cannot successfully Factory Restore, you may need a new machine.

Clean my PC

Over time a computer may experience a debilitating virus infection, system error or hard drive error rendering it unusable. Perform a restore on a Dell Dimension 4600 to resolve any problems the computer may encounter. The restoration will return the computer to the original operating condition, but all the software and other data stored to the hard drive will be erased during the process.

Connect the external hard drive to the computer and wait for its folder to appear on the desktop. Copy and paste any valuable data, documents, photos or other files you want to save to the external hard drive's folder. Right-click the folder and choose "Eject" once the backup is complete. Remove any hardware devices, such as printers, MP3 players, scanners and PDAs, from the computer as they can be damaged during the restoration. Restart the computer and press the "F8" key when the Dell logo appears on the screen during the startup process. The "Advanced Boot Options Menu" will appear. Use the arrow keys to select the "Repair Your Computer" option and press "Enter." Select the language settings for your computer and click "Next." Log in with an administrator account and click "OK." Click on the "Dell Factory Image Restore" icon. Click "Next" in the window that appears and click the box for "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition." Click "Next" to begin the restore process. The utility will return the computer to the factory settings and reformat the hard drive. Click "Finish" to restart the computer with the new operating condition in place.

How to transfer files from my old HP Pavilion 8650C to Dell computer or seagate external hard drive?

With the drive plugged in, open My Computer. You should see an icon labeled something or another that relates to your external hard drive. If you cannot determine which it is, unplug the hard drive. One of the icons should vanish. When you plug it back in, open the drive that appears. In order to transfer files, simply find the ones which you wish to move on your computer (most likely in the My Documents folder), then copy and paste them into the hard drive. Tell me if you have any more issues, and vote if this helped!

My system cannot detected any hard drive on

go into the bios during rebooting stage and check whether you have automatic detection of drives. If set to disabled or manual change to automatic. You may have a problem with the motherboard interface to hard-drive.

Replacing the battery on dell e510 - floppy disk drive not present

Replacing a laptop battery should not make a drive all of a sudden not appear.

You will have to enter the BIOS of the computer by hitting the required key stated at the first screen when Turning on the computer (usual located at the very bottom, it's almost always F2 or Tab or Delete)

Once in the BIOS the very first screen visible to you should tell you the drives hooked up to the machine VIA IDE or SATA. See if your HDD is located there.
