Call ahead, always, and tell them your in a wheelchair, and then ask them what their procedures are for people in wheelchairs, usually you can take no matter what type of wheelchair onto the plane, but when you get to the checkin counter you'll have to check in your wheelchair, make sure if its Electric you have notes on it, where its suppose to be going, what to touch, and not to touch..etc.. They will Now thankfully load your wheelchair into the cargo part of the plane, the wheelchair they have is just to get you down the aisle, make sure if you need a isle seat you tell them that, also first class and businesses usually have bigger seats... all planes have website with this information on them American, Southwestern, Blue Jet, etc... you can usually find this information right on their websites, and be thankful, because a long time ago, I needed to fly and wasn't able too this was back in the 80's tell them if you'll need assistance, etc...

Here are some tips

  • When booking your flight: Use a travel agent who is experienced with planning trips for travelers with disabilities.
  • Make your reservation far in advance.
  • If possible, choose an airline with planes that have 30 seats or more - larger planes offer more accessibility.
  • Pick a flight with no changeovers. Call ahead to alert the reservation clerk that you will be traveling with a wheelchair.
  • Arrange for boarding assistance or an aisle chair to get to your seat. And if you can't walk, request an aisle chair during your flight for bathroom use.
  • You should arrive at the airport At least an hour in advance so you can store your fold-up wheelchair on-board. (There is usually room for one wheelchair on a first-come basis).
  • When possible, use gel batteries, as wet batteries must be removed and stored in a separate sealed container.

How to dissemble to travel

The M41 was not made to disassemble. The seat is the only part that is made to remove. The seat has a release level under the right side of the seat. To remove the seat lift up and hold the lever up as you lift the seat straight up off the center post. Do not forget to unplug the joystick cable from the base of the chair before lifting off the seat.

What can i do to speed upp chair?

1. Use the buttons or dial on the joystick to adjust speeds.
2. Use the programmer to reprogram the top speed- which will be about 4mph. This is a pretty typical top speed on low-end wheelchairs. Remember, speed affects performance- the faster you go, the worse the braking and turning gets, and the tippier the chair gets. Also remember that wheelchairs have very few safety features for crashes and tips.
3. Invest in a pair of high performance motors and motor controller (which probably means a new joystick, too). You'll also need better batteries since the faster speeds will put more demand on them. Your best source for this sort of information will be wheelchair user forums.
4. Buy a high performance wheelchair, like the Bounder High Performance (http://www.wheelchairs.com/fast.htm)

Most people who use chairs want more speed, but wheelchairs are TIGHTLY regulated by the government, and there are lots of restrictions on what they can and cannot do.

Tips for charging new batteries in Jazzy Select Traveller

Check the charger output to verify whether or not you have a bad charger using a voltmeter. These smaller batteries are notorious for having a short shelf life and poor quality control from the manufacturer. Load test the batteries after you verify you have a working charger that will bring the batteries up to the proper voltage first.

Which is the best travel power chair that medicare will pay for?

1st off, Medicare only pays 80% of the cost of the chair and they set the price. Typically you will have to pay around $900. I would suggest that you look at the Pride mobility Traveller, the Golden Tech Alante Jr and the Merits Health Travel ease.

Wheelchair support

First of all, you should be aware of your Center-of-Gravity. Many activities require the wheelchair user to reach, bend and transfer in and out of the wheelchair. These movements will cause a change to normal balance, center-of-gravity, and weight distribution of the wheelchair.

To determine and establish your particular safety limits, practice bending, reaching and transferring activities in several combinations in the presence of another individual BEFORE attempting active use of the wheelchair. roper positioning is essential for your safety.

When reaching, leaning, bending sideways or forward, it is important to use the casters as a tool to maintain stability and balance. When you are reaching, leaning and bending forward, position the casters so that they are extended away from the drive wheels and engage wheel locks.

Never attempt to reach an object if you have to move forward in the seat or pick them up from the floor by reaching between your knees. When you're reaching or bending backward, position wheelchair as close as possible to the desired object.

Position the casters so the are extended away from the drive wheels to create the longest possible wheelbase.

Reach back only as far as your arm will extend without changing your sitting position. When another person is tipping the wheelchair, he should grasp the back of the wheelchair on a non-removable part.

Inform the wheelchair occupant before tipping the wheelchair and remind them to lean back.

Be sure the occupant's feet and hands are clear of all wheels and/or any other pinch points.
