Hi there,

Does your Hard disk is Partitioned and the Operating system is on one Hard Disk Drive (mostly C:)?

If yes, then please reboot your pc in Safe Mode with command prompt. (Tapping F8 Key during Bootup).

Run Checkdisk command for the faulty drive, CHKDSK C: /F/R

(Note: space only two times, after 'K' and ':')
Then it shows such as, follow the steps

C:\windows> ..

C:\windows> D:

D:\> chkdsk c: /f/r
It will run some test, if the error is due to OS.

and completes.

Then reboot normally.

It will load windows automatically.

WONT START UP

Check there is no bootable CD/DVD in the drive, if not then there is probably an issue with the laptop's hard disk that needs to be replaced by a technician. You could try booting into Safe Mode to see does that work by pressing F8 just before the Windows logo appears but it sounds like a dying or dead hard disk.

A disk read error occurred, press ctrl-alt-+delete to restart

Hello Sir

I am afraid that the hard drive is corrupt. It needs to be reformatted and reinstalled. There is also a good possibility that the hard drive will need to be replaced I am afraid. To make sure ask the technician or who will attend to it to disconnect the hard drive from your laptop. Plug it in an enclosure and copy all of its contents before reformatting. IF IT DOES WORK then don't let them trick you that it needs to be changed as it is just a case of corrupt files and a reformat / reinstall will do it good. In this manner you hit 2 birds with one stone and you get things back up and running :)

Hope that this solution helped you :)

Best Regards
Alx :)

A disk read error occurred

More than likely you have a hard drive failing/failure.

You should have it looked at if you are not "comfortable" doing it yourself.

Problem with a disk read error

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. The hard drive is defective.

2. The operating system is corrupt.

The easiest way to test this is to run the restore cd that came with the computer to reload Windows.

If you get this error while running the restore cd then you will need to get a new hard drive.
