Make sure the lead from the mouse has a secure seating with no dust in the connection and the lead is not bad/faulty

click start right click on my computer select properties device manager control scroll to mice and pointing devices you might see a yellow question mark? right update driver
make sure the battery is good (has full charge)also you might test the usb device for the mouse is inserted correctly into the usb port (if applicable)

If it is a regular mouse, check the prongs and make sure none are not bent. If the are bent they won't make a connection. If it is a USB mouse try using another USB port. If you have access to another computer connect your mouse to it to make sure the mouse is not faulty.

USB mouse? Try using a PS/2 to USB adapter on the USB mouse. Plug into the PS/2 port on the motherboard. Post back in a Comment as to your findings.
