You are engaging the time delay switch when you start changing the time on your machine. Don't do anything with the clock or timer. You need to just choose the whole wheat program and the machine will perform as it is supposed to.
Thank you for your quick response! I believe there must have been a TR500 A & B. I'm not sure which one I have b/c I've purchased manuals online that say they are for A and also purchased ones for B, but keep getting the same manual. The problem is that the control panel shown on the manual is different than the control panel on the machine I own. The one in the manual shows 10 different options on the panel. My machine only has 6 preset options to select: Basic Wheat (Medium, Dark, Light), European, Fruit & Nut, and Dough. Does this mean that I have to work within the preset times on the machine I have? I can not adjust the times at all? Why is there an up and down function on the times if I can not adjust them? Thank you so much for helping me with this!
Hi there, The up and down switches on your machine timer have nothing to do with the programs you choose. They are only for using the bake delay feature on your machine. Example: some folks may want to put all the ingredients in at night and wake up to warm bread in the morning for breakfast . The timer allows them to do that. The answer to your first question is "yes" you have to work with the preset times of each program. Some machines have a "Bake" program that you can use to add additional time to the final bake stage, but, based on your description of your control panel I don't think you have that option.
The best thing to do is choose the basic program and see how it does. Don't do anything with the clock (timer) because your machine will then go into time delay mode and it won't start the program. It surprises me that your machine doesn't have a whole wheat program choice, since it doesn't your whole wheat loaf will probably be small. If you want a bigger loaf you will probably have to go with a 50/50 split of whole wheat flour and bread flour.
Thank you Daryl. Although I realized that i have to work within the preset times for each program, I figured out a way around it. The fruit & nut cycle is very similar to what a whole wheat 1 1/2 lb loaf should be, so based off of the times for each stage that are explained in the manual (22 minutes of kneading, 25 minutes of rising, etc.) I basically created my own program by starting the program, then taking the dough out for a certain amount of time so it wouldn't be over kneaded, then adding it back and starting the program again. Although this was my first time baking bread it came out delish! I will try to make another loaf with the preset times though, and take your advice about the addition of the bread flour. Thanks so much!
