Question about Canon Printers & Copiers

6 Answers

I have a Selphy CP510 printer which has stopped working. I have tried printing from both my computers; I have reinstalled the printer-driver on both my computers - nothing seems to work. The operating systems tell me that the printer is connected and ready - but when I send the print instruction, nothing happens. When I first turn on the printer, all the normal whirrs, clicks and noises occur. I have tried putting in a new ink cartridge - still nothing happens. Help, please!

Thanks, Wiz - but this does not work. I have already done all that (except that my operating system invites me to 'use system online' rather than to set it up. My test page is, of course, a photograph.

I should also have said in my original post that the printer dialogue informs me that the document is printing; and that the manual tells me that the on/off button (backlit in green) will flash when it is printing - it is not flashing.

    Dear mohammed387,
I think you have responded to the wrong post. I mentioned no other printers, nor did my reinstallation of the driver quit. Thanks, anyway.

    Dear leethedeuce,

I have had the printer for about two years. I have not used it for several months; while it has been idle it has been wearing its protective "dust cap".

One of my computers is running Windows XP Professional V5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3; the other is running Vista Home Basic V6.0 Build 6001 Service Pack 1.

    Thank you. (NM)

Dear all, I have now tried something that I had not attempted previously: printing directly from the camera. Guess what? It works! So if there is anything wrong with the printer, it is only where it connects to the computer. Instead of printing from ZoomBrowserEx (the program which came with the camera and printer) I have tried printing from the Microsoft Phot Editor and that even went so far as to tell me that my photograph had printed successfully! (it hadn't, it was still in the print queue).

    Dear Pattods,

    Dear Pattods,

Thank you for your suggestions; unfortunately, I have tried them all. I have tried two different USB cables without success, and I have tried printing from three different programs - also without success. The printer and the computer are definitely communicating, as the printer dialogue reports that the printer is online and that the photograph is printing.

This morning, after yesterday's discovery that I can print photographs that come directly from the camera, I went in to town and bought a male-male USB cable to connect the computer to the same USB connector in the side of the printer that the camera connects to. But that doesn't work at all. The computer does not even detect the printer at the other end of that cable. Pity, 'cos I thought I was being clever.

Its power supply may be faulty. Better take it to an authorized service station to troubleshoot it's problem.

It sounds like a bad USB connector bud. The USB connectors can go bad. Try a new cable, and see if the printer reacts to printing then. I've seen a lot of USB cables wear their connectors out over time.

Also, reinstall the drivers of course, and try printing from a couple different programs. See if it's just a certain program possibly.

I hope this helps a little bud.

I would suggest that if the installer quit you most likely don't have the driver installed. I downloaded the v4.40 from the Canon web site and it ran fine on my MacBook Pro. And those other printers you mention are the GIMP printers included with OS X, not the result of the installer. I think you need to determine why the installer is failing. If it works, then the printer should add the moment you connect the USB.

How long have you owned the camera and how long have you been experiencing this problem? Once I have more information I can assist you further.
Thanks,

If that's the case make sure Pause printing is off or disable on the printer properties that might also cause this problem....

Did you check the pause printing if its enable or ON on your printer properties? because it only means that the printer is fine and its only a settings of the printer that is causing this problem...

Typically the paper pickup rollers need to be cleaned or replaced.
Pickup mechanism may be damaged as well.
If you attempt to clean use 100% isopropyl alcohol with caution.

If the rollers are working, but its not pulling the paper in, I would suggest, as suggested in another thread, to 'rough up' the rollers in an attempt to give them better grip and maybe a bit more circumference.

Did you download and install the proper Vista driver from Canon's website? If not, I would suggest that. If you have, then try opening the device manager and look for the printer. Reinstall the driver and just direct it to look in the proper folder for it.

Hi! I have same problem. I opened cover (4 deep screws at the bottom) and found small plastic gear was separated from stepping motor shaft. I fixed it on shaft and my printer started work again. Today I will try to fix same problem on another CP510. I think same reason. Try to do it. Simple. vadim.y.astakhov@gmail.com
