Using alternate Ethernet adapter

A lightning strike burnt out the onboard Ethernet adapter so I have added a plug-in adapter. What do I need to do to get the system to recognize the adapter and use it instead of the dead, onboard Ehternet?

You should first restart computer, then go to BIOS settings and disable the onboard adapter. Then boot up windows and install drivers for the new adapter and it should work. If that doesn't help, please ask for more help here.

I have just unistalled vista and replaced it with windows xp pro but driver for ethernet controller are not installed my computer is iqon

If you are doing this on a laptop then that's probably because there was no driver ever made for your ethernet controller for Windows XP pro. This is a standard tactic that Microsoft and the computer manufacturers use to get you to upgrade your operating system and never go back to an older operating system.
It means less headaches for manufacturer since they then don't have to go back and make an extra driver for an older operating system which saves them time and money and of course Microsoft gets money for every operating system purchased with a new computer.
The good news is there is an easy solution. You can buy a small USB wireless ethernet adapter to plug into one of your USB ports and you will have internet again. It will come with a driver disk, but many times your operating system will automatically install the correct drivers when you plug the device in.
You can get a great deal on a new USB wireless ethernet adapter here:

I particularly like this model because it works well and is very small:

I have no ethernet controller driver for the windows 7 ultimate

The drivers that you need for devices such as sound, video, ethernet, etc. Are usually contained on a driver CD that was shipped from the manufacturer with the device. If the device is built into the motherboard, the drivers will be on a CD that was provided with the computer. If you do not have this CD, you will have to visit either the website of the manufacturer who made the motherboard, or the website of the company who made the computer to download the drivers that you need.
Once you get to the website, look in the support or downloads section of the site for the model number of your computer (or the model number of the motherboard or plug-in device).and select the drivers you need for download.
In the event that you cannot locate the driver(s), look for a "contact us" link on the website support or home page. This link will provide you with contact information (phone or E-mail) and allow you communicate your problem to them.
If you cannot find an ethernet driver for Windows 7, you will have to buy an ethernet card. You can buy them on-line for under $20 from places like

Does the acer aspire z5700 desktop have a built in wifi router or do i need to purchase and set up a router to enable home sharing network?

While it doesn't have a built-in router, it DOES have a wireless adapter built in. So if you were to purchase your own router (or rent one from your ISP), the computer would work fine with it.
More details on your computer here:;rnav

Im having problem connecting to the internet. Its telling me that i have to install a network adapter and a ethernet controller drive because its not working properly.

Try to uninstall your ethernet controller driver and install it again, if this not work again, you need to replaced a new network adapter.

Hope this work!
Thanks and Godbless!

How to make vista act as router? without using any outside router !! the inbuilt wifi syatem should act as router..

Yes well IF you use two network cards, a WiFi Adapter & an Ethernet Adapter, you can do this, now with a WiFi adapter, as you say, What you do is connect to the internet on the PC, and "Share" the internet connection via the WiFi. You set up the WiFi as either an "Access Point" or a an "Ad Hoc" network, if you want to communicate with the "Other" PC's, and have then communicate with you, as well as access the Internet. So setup is simple, using the manufacturers DVD install the WiFi. card, then, Set it up as you wish, the PC's that connect should be in the same Workgroup, have sharing enabled and be passworded too then as said connect to the Internet and the "Other" pc's will be able to "Burrow" out through you Internet, through the ADSL Modem attached to the "Main" PC. Usually via the Ethernet port. You still need to set up an SSID and use a WAP/WEP key for security. on the WiFi card.

Connecting your old computer to your laptop is actually very easy.
You will need to go and buy an ethernet cable But. you must buy what is known as a "crossover" cable and NOT a normal straight cable. This cable will simply plug into the ethernet port on each machine allowing them to create a small simple network. You can use the "Create a small office or home network" wizard to do this or better still if you have an actual XP installation disk you can create the network using it.
This is an example of a crossover cable:

If your old computer doesn't have an ethernet port you can use a USB adapter to do the same thing.
You may need to buy an ethernet cable to go with the USB adapter, I have never used the USB adapter to this so I cannot comment on how easy or reliable it is.

If you find this a bit daunting let me know, we will have to speak directly about it, I am sure fixya would not be happy about me offering my services directly to a fixya client.

Is the ethernet adapter on the mother board built-in? If not you need to get the drivers of that adapter. If its it, then use the mother boards cd to loacte the drivers of the ethernet adapter.
