Sound Goes Off and TV Comes On By Itself

I Have a Philips 60" TV Model 60P8342 and after the TV is on a while the volume starts going off and back on and after a little longer the TV will start changing channels. The TV will also will come back on by itself once it's turned off. I have tried disconnecting the remote control sensor and the front panel controls but that didn't help. Any help would be apprecicated. Thanks!

I have the same exact problem.

What is the SSB board? Can the repair be made by a novice with good soldering skills?

Sound goes out and comes back on

If this is a pair of wireless speakers hit the button in the back of the speakers to change the channel. if it is the speakers inside the set, it could be a loose solder connection that heats up after a while and then the solder seperates preventing sound. this same issue could happen to the final amp in the tv, when they get bad they will heat up and stop working. All requiring a tech to troubleshoot the problem.

Philips rear projection TV model 60P8342.

It`s not Eprompt, it`s the Eprom, Erasable Read Only Memory. The Eprom holds all the information in it about your set like has it got Ni-cam Sound, A wide-screen, A projection set plus a lot of other information like Convergence settings, RGB setup, PAL, NTSC settings plus customer settings like Colour, brightness etc. There are other settings besides these which are in binary bit code which can control the power supply, Standby timing etc etc. The Eprom may only be an eight or a sixteen pin device but it a crucial part of the set where information is perminantly being read from the Eprom to make sure the three guns are set correctly and the convergence errors are being kept in check. This is a very time consuming job even for a qualified technician, I know, I used to do these and Philips sets are notorious for Eprom and uPC failures. The Eprom comes formatted from the suppliers, so there`s absolutley no information in it at all meaning that you have to start from zero. If you can get the set to come on long enough and you can get the set into service mode, you may be lucky where you can write down the 200-300 or so settings, If not, WHAT A JOB. Believe me, you can change the Eprom in 2 minutes, but it could take 1 or 2 days to set it all up again and even then it`s very difficult to get it perfect. Ian

No picture, no sound. sounds like a bird cherping in back of tv.

power supply wont come up, so it chips. the fuses are super hard to check on this one, but you can pull the cable that goes to convergence sometimes and it will come up with a bowed picture. its the 3rd ribbon cable going from the defleciton board (lots of high power parts) to the signal board (lots of daughter boards, small parts) there are 3 cables hooking the two together, pull the one furthest from the back and try to power on. be ready to pull the plug but it will come up and run with a bowed pict if the ICs are bad. if so, see this link for tips

Popping sound and picture goes out

Sounds like the flyback or the picture tube. Either items can cause this. If the pop comes from the rear right side its the flyback. If the sound comes from the lower front behind the speaker grille its the tube. Let me know what you discover as I have access to any of the parts you would need.
