I have a similar problem. Both ink cartridges were low on ink so I replace them with new ones today - the orange light is now blinking and I can't get anything to print!

SOURCE: The color ink in my hp deskjet 920c won't work

try cleaning the contacts (bronze like) with dry cloth both the cartridge and the cartridge holder most of the times there exist some liquid forms on both areas. since you frequently remove the cartridges; their might be a broken part on the cartridge holder. the broken part, use, is to make sure the cartridge is in absolute contact with the cartridge holder's. the size the said broken part is 2 mm in all sides. so small that it has a big dnt even recognize.

SOURCE: I've just installed my HP

You can't operate the printer without the color cartridge, even if you don't need it. You can always keep an empty one in, but you must have both in.

Just bought black ink and its say the ink cartiridge isnt installed properly

Most of the time I have seen this issue because the safety strip has not been fully removed from the bottom of the cartridge, or the cartridge is not fully snapped into place. check the bottom of the new cartridge for any blockage or safety strip remains and the snap it back into place.

I refilled the ink cartridges on my Canon iP1700. The print screen says they are low on ink and the orange light blinks four times. I unpluged the printer as directed in my manual. ??? The orange light...

The refilled ink cartridges do not have the chip which comes charged from the company. It is suggestable if you can spend on the new ink cartridges, do it. or else you can buy from the market compatible ink cartridges which comes with pre charged chip on the cartridge. this chip when comes in contact to the printer carriage assembly where the circuit is located. the printer works fine without any errors

Inserted new light still on

Try re-seating the ink cartridges. A lot of times, the electrical contacts on HP's ink cartridges do not make a solid connection.

Orange light blinking

Solution: Confirm the ink tank(s) are properly installed iP4300

Ensure that the ink tank is installed properly. Open the Top Cover, Paper Output Tray and Inner Cover, and then press on the 'PUSH' mark on the ink tank whose lamp is off until the ink tank clicks into place. Once the ink tank is installed properly its lamp will light red.
Ensure that all the orange tape has been peeled off as shown in (1). If a part of the orange tape remains as shown in (2), remove it completely.

(1) Correct (An L-shaped notch* appears on the ink tank.)

(2) Incorrect (Orange tape remains. Peel off the tape along the perforation.)
