Check in the BIOS to see what processor is rated at (upon power-up of laptop hit F2 key to enter setup menu). Depending on what model Centrino you have, the speed rating should be at around 1.2 GHz or better. If speed checks out in the BIOS then run diagnostics on laptop to see if the motherbrd has a bottleneck issue. To do this, hold down the <FN> key and then push the power on button. Problem could be either your processor or motherbrd.

The most probable, as far as I know, the hard drive is dying. Please test the laptop with a healthy (or brand new) hard drive.

Will an Intel® Pentium® M

I don't know your exact CPU specs but I've taken a single core Intel M processor 2.0 GHZ from a Dell 800 laptop and put it into my wife's X1000 and have had no problems running XP SP3. My own x1000 computer reports Intel Pentium M 1600MHZ as CPU type.

CPU Speed showed in My PC Lower than real one.

Check your CPU out on CPU WORLD, some of those older intel processors has a speed switch on them. You just enabled it it the bios but its not apparent until you start taxing the CPU.

Hi, i have dell inspiron 8600. It is working at 600 mhz but the processor speed is 1.6 ghz. The intel speed step utility is also enabled in the setup. Kindly help

The Intel SpeedStep Technology dynamically changes processor speed to help prolong battery life. If you want it to run at 1.6GHz all the time, you will have to disable it in setup.

2 ghz processor running at 220 mhz

Hi,

Have you tried right clicking on the desktop (opening Display Properties), clicking on Screen Saver tab, Clicking the Power button, and setting the power schemes to Home/Office Desk? If its set on laptop it will reduce the processor speed when running on battery. I have noticed that even with it plugged in that some times it will run at half processor speed. Try that out.

Have a great day,

Processor id recognized as 498mhz instead of previous 648Mhz

THE CPU IS TEST IN BATCHS OF 1000'S THEY WILL MAYBE PICK ONE OUT OF THE THOUSAND AND TEST LOOK A THE MAXIMUIM THE CPU FUNCATION AT THAN PICK A SAFE ALTERNATE SETTING OF MHZ FOR ALL CPU IN THAT GROUP, THAT ONE CPU MAY BE ONLY DEFAULTY CPU TO RUN AT 500 MHZ, THAT ONE HAS A PROBLEM IN THE CURCUITRY OF THE CPU, I WOULD RETURN IT TO WHERE YOU PURCHASED THE CPU AND EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM, INTEL ALSO IN THE CPU SPECIFACATION GIVE A TOLERANCE OF MAYBE 8-10%
ERROR ON ISSUES WITH THE OPERATION SPEED OF THE CPU, LETS SAY THE CPU IS RARED AT 500MHZ AT 1 % OPERATION SPEED IS WILL FAILURE OF 5MHZ, THAT CHIP IS STILL OKAY AND YOU JUST GOT THE RUNT OF THE LITTER.
NOW LETS SAY ITS RATE FOR 550 TO 600 MHZ THAN YOU HAVE A GOOD CASE ON RETURN BECAUSE THE FAULURE RATE IS TO HIGH ON THE % OF FAULTY REQIUREMENT,

I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND BASICLY HOW IT WORKS OR ASK SOME ONE AT INTEL TO EXPLAIN HOW THE FAILURE RARE ON CPU WORK.

PS

THAT PRODUCT IS NOT WORKING RIGHT, HAVE THEM RUN THE TECHNICAIN TEST PROGRAM, OR CPU TEST RATE IS, OR DRIVE PRO, OR CHECKIT SOFTWARE, OR WICHECKIT, OR DIAGNOSTIC UTILITIES SOFTWARE, QAPLUSWIN, OR THE TROUBLESHOOTER PROGRAM ON THE MACHINE.

Pc computer slow

By saying " installed new programs " what did you mean ?
Reinstalling XP after you upgraded ?

You might also try a driver update program such as driver detective. Or Manually update all the drivers. I doubt the motherboard is going bad making your pc run slow.
