Question about Epson Stylus Photo R320 InkJet Printer

10 Answers

No power? Nothing, nada, happens when I push the power button. Tried the stop-maintenance button combo also. The fuse in the power supply is good. Power gets to the power supply but who knows from there.

    Unit is out of warranty.

  • adwoz Sep 16, 2008

    Problem is still there.

  • adwoz Sep 16, 2008

Yes there is power at the outlet.

  • adwoz Sep 16, 2008

Outlet is hot. Door is not blocked.

  • adwoz Sep 16, 2008

As I said, the fuse in the power supply is good. The power cord itself has continuity from the outlet to the power supply.

Are technical troubleshooting guides available? Schematics?

Thanks, This IS helpful information. My dream solution would have a method to determine if the power supply is in fact bad or not without replacing it. The service issue has not come up as far as I can tell. (I personaly don't use this printer. I just get called when it doesn't work.) I'll try the links for tech manuals.

How long have you owned the printer. Please do not pass or ask for more assistance til I have all the information and can assist you properly. Your best bet is to locate the nearest authorized service center at this link
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&category=Products&infoType=Contact&oid=47541
though you may have to contact their tech support. Your only other option is replacement in the future you may want to consider an extended warranty. If you have a moment to accept and rate this solution it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lee

Remove the ac power cord from the printer for 5 min and then plug it back and check if its power on ,if it fails try another ac mains even this fails then try to change the power cable ,if this did not work then you need to give the printer for service.........

Good luck....

Hi,
Could you give me the model number for the epson, so that i can tell you if there are any serviceable parts for your printer. Generally the best option is to replace the printer.Coz that would be a more cost effective proposition then trying to fix this one.

Thanks

Hi,

I am assuming that you have a fair knowledge of electrical/electronics components and circuitry as well as safe practices involved in repairs of this nature.

Having said that, I would further assume that you have opened the casing, did continuity check on the fuse and visually inspected the power supply section. To mu knowledge, the PSU used by this printer is an SMPS (switch mode) very similar to what a desktop PC would be using, though compact. Repairs of the PSU would then be component level and often requires voltage checks (of course live) and preferably with a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram for reference.

In most instances, the entire power supply is replaced. Pls reference this page for replacement assembly.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Re Service Manual:

To my knowledge, an Epson the R320 is an enhanced R300/310. it has the optional color view screen plugged in as a standard, hence the service manual for R300/310 would also serve the purpose.

    Pls try here.

A question pls, was there an instance that the printer displayed "Service"? and if so, was service down or was it ignored? I was made to understand that some versions of this model would shutdown if a "service is not performed and a special reset has to be done (not the "Press and hold 'stop' 'maintenance' and 'power' buttons for about 10 seconds.").

Should the initial link not be sufficient, pls go a Google for r300s_m.zip.

Try unplugging it from the PC and the outlet, and plug it in elsewhere in another socket in the room or home; check if there is something blocking the printer's door.

If you live in australia.. make sure the switch is on for the outlet... even other countries sometimes have wall switches for the outlet.... if you have not already... plug a lamp or other device into the wall socket to confirm it works

that printer is fairly new and if the warrenty is out of date.  you could open
up the shell of the printer and the board has a tiny glass fuse...

Note: this would be your last option so please understand that If you are not confortable doing this
i would bring it back to the store ans see if this modle has a recall or othe power issues.

Not all printers have a fuse inside so this model I can only give you the best knowledge that I can and it would not hurt to take a look?

    Thank You Jayson

You need to take it apart

  • Jayson Brollini
    Jayson Brollini Sep 16, 2008

Just Kick it real hard and then see if it has any life left in it ..

I think that your printer is DOA and I would really suggest that
you call the manufacture and say that the plug hot and this is
a FIRE HAZZARD and that you demand a replacement.

Because you are not risking a loss due to the poor workmanship
    of this Printer..

Hey it is better than taking it all apart and finding out that you
can not fix it the problem.

    Thanks Jayson

You may have a problem with the switch panel board. If you disassemble it, you may be able to test the panel by shorting the two connectors to the power button. On the other hand it could be the power supply that is dead on the output side. Both are problems that do occur with R3** series but not that common.

I have a separate fax line for my Canon MX310. It goes into fax mode but noting happens. I also cannot receive faxes.

The only reason to call the phone company is if you're not getting a dial tone on that line. Otherwise, have you shut down the printer and tried to reset it to factory defaults. To do that, follow the instructions below:
  • 1 Switch the Canon MX310 off using the "Power" button, then push the "Stop/Reset" button on the control panel. Hold the button down for about five seconds.
  • 2 Push the "Power" button while holding "Stop/Reset." Hold down both buttons for five seconds.
  • 3 Release "Stop/Reset" while holding down the "Power" button.
  • 4 Push "Stop/Reset" twice while continuing to hold the "Power" button. Release the "Power" button. The power light will turn green.
  • 5 Once the light is steady green, push "Stop/Reset." Wait about three seconds and push it again. Wait three more seconds and push it one final time, for a total of three times. The power light will turn orange.
  • 6 Push the "Power" button, then lift the MX310 cover open.
  • 7 Remove both ink cartridges and wait 10 seconds. Replace the cartridges and close the MX310 cover. Wait 30 seconds.
  • 8 Push the "Power" button. Wait a few seconds to allow the printer to fully power down, then switch the Canon MX310 back on using the "Power" button.

Burnt fuse or double check that there is power at the socket and at the end of the cord when un-plugged... If there is power try turning on and make sure all doors are closed.

I have refilled my color ink. After it prints 20 pages it lights up the "color ink" button meaning it's out of ink and starts printing poorly. I tried refilling twice with new ink - same thing happened.

Try this, it will reset your counter.

Power off printer
Hold down STOP/RESET button then Press and Hold down Power button
Keep Power button down and Release STOP/RESET button
Push STOP/RESET button twice
Wait 20-30 seconds - our LED showed Idle
Push STOP/RESET button four times
Push Power button twice
Power off
Next time the printer is started the waste count will have been reset

Purchased new fusing unit for ricoh cl3500n; installed; tried to reset computer by holding escape for 5 seconds; does not clear out error message 'replace fusing unit' ; nothing will print; can not get to...

You need to enter service mode, (this really should be done by a ricoh tech) Turn off printer press and hold down online and escape and turn printer on, the panel should sho a 1 2 3, push 2 for engine and enter press 7 and enter 804 is the counters for supplies. #4 is the fuser press enter after the printer says execute. Back out with escape and 3 to exit, cycle power. -Carl
