The PIP board is small and square and stands straight up on the main board. It plugs into a socket. It also has a ground wire that has to be unsoldered to remove it from the machine. It is located essentially in the middle of the main board near the rear of the set. Sorry I can't describe it any better. Go to http:\\www.tritronicsinc.com or call 1-800-638-3328 for parts. Thank you!!

This is a case of bad capacitors in the PIP (picture in picture) module. If you have any electronics repair experience, you should be able to do the repair yourself. Here is some more detailed instructions:

Hi Jim and seirig

The PIP module(problematic with this model) can be removed and bypassed, there are guys on ebay selling kits to do this. You probably DO have capacitor problems in the vertical stages(as is the problem with the PIP module also). They do not always "bulge" as an indicator of failure. Often they just leak out. If the bulge occurs about a safety vent stamped into the top of them means they have overheated, and the stamped vent is meant to rupture to prevent them from exploding. If there is any white residue on the board or corrosion about any caps, this is casued by them venting on the bottom side instead, then they have failed. if they move about easily then their connecting legs, they may have corroded off up inside the can of the cap itself. Sometimes they can appear physically AOK, and be faulty. Checking them with a meter is really the only sure way of determining a caps worthiness. It is a common problem with any electronics these days. They just dont build them to last. Surface mount capcitors actually have a shelf life even in storage!! Replacing all the caps in a stage to resolve a problem like this is often gives the best result. One failing cap can put pressure on others, and the overheating issue may reoccur. Best to get quality brand parts to replace failed caps. These guys are everywhere in the world, and easy to navigate, just search for you part :)

A FixYa is a good reward for my time to extend this advice to you. If you have more questions, I am also happy to attempt to answer them for you. Cheers

Mitsubishi vs-45605 with wavy lines

The first things to check are the filter caps in the main power supply area. Usually this rolling is caused by 60 cycle hum coming from the wall. Try that first and update this with your results. Also, while you are in there, resolder any joints that appear grainy or have rings.

Mitshishi vs-45605 again

Thanks for the FixYa, I see now what your dilemma is. There is another ebay auction up that also claims there are 5 different PIP boards to mod out. check here

He may be the better bet to go with, and promises to email the mods to you and where to find the board. If they all look different, may be the problem you are facing. .The mod itself is just pulling the PIP PCB, and then jumpering the in/outs for video with a couple of capacitors. Its possible that some versions of the set don't have the PIP PCB, but unlikely . Do you have any pcbs that look remotely similar... the pcb may be different, but will have similer connectivity and function.

G'day mate

To all accounts it does, this can be checked by verifying that it has TWO antenna inputs. To get the PIP working, you will need to split and feed both antenna inputs. Seems to be set up this way to cater to PIP with set top boxes/convertors that have RF outputs
358cd4a.jpg

the 2 tuners can be spotted as the shielded assemblies with covers either side in the lower right corner of this pic. There is a mod floating around that involves bypassing the PIP to fix a fault that the set develops. This may have been done to your already.

check here for details.

Hope this helps you. A fixya rating is a great thankyou for my efforts to assist you . Cheers

This symptom is typical of the infamous PIP module with the leaky
electrolytics. If the corrosion has not become so bad that the board is
unrepairable, you can change all of the surface mount caps and clean up the corrosion

There is no vertical hold in the tv circuits now adays. You may find a vertical center or a vertical height. Your problem sounds like (if it has PIP Thats Picture in Picture) its in the PIP module and its a small module that stands up and most models of Mistubishi this module is no longer availabvle. The problem with the module is the small pana caps are leaking and ruins the PC traces. I have heard that theres a kit available on E-Bay to jump out this module. Now if its not the PIP model then it could be a few capacitors in the vertical sweep circuit. Also the B+ feed off the Flyback that supplies voltage to the vertical output IC could have a bad or leaky capacitor in the circuit. If your not a tech or solid state troubleshooter theres not much you can do and SHOULD take this set in to a repair center. Good Luck
