I have the canon ti1digital slr and can't figure out how to get the view finder to show up on the screen

Set the shooting mode to a Creative Zone mode.
Press the button with the camera icon located northwest of the cursor pad.

Full details are in the "Live View Shooting" section of the manual (page 105 in my copy).

I have a Canon mv700i and I'm now seeing horizontal lines on the screen in the playback mode (I'm trying to copy an older tape). I'm thinking the heads need a clean? Can I do this myself and if so how?

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. Please take a look at the symptoms listed here, and see if it's what you're experiencing.

Sony had a certain issue with the CCD chip on this camera. If it's this issue, they'll fix it free plus $20 until March 2010.

Vertical lines

If the lines appear on the tape this way when it is recorded, then the CCD unit is going out on the camcorder. If it isn't recording the lines then the viewfinder wiring or screen is damaged.

You should problably take it into a camera shop to see if its worth fixing.

GR-D33u vertical lines on all screens

you'll need to send it in for repairs.

some contact info for JVC.
Stacy Sample Service Coordinator JVC Service & Engineering 10700 Hammerly, suite 110 Houston, Texas 77043 (713) 935-9331 Ext. 101 ssample@jvc.com

being a fact that JVC camcorders are very trouble prone, it would probably be a better ideal & cheaper to buy a new camcorder.
for your next camcorder purchase, i would stay away from anything made by JVC.
