Toshiba external drive won't instal on Windows 7 Home Premium

Will the external drive work on another computer? Has the external drive been dropped, bumped, jarred? If it works on another computer, shut down the Win7 laptop, unplug, remove battery, remove the USB external plug, plug into AC, reboot, when it is finished, plug in USB.

My laptop is a used Toshiba satellite and it needs a operating system it won't even load to the desktop screen I don't have a disk either what do I do

The best thing would be a partition on the factory-installed hard drive that contains the OS and recovery data, you can boot to that. If it's a new hard drive, then you need a new operating system (OS) for the laptop.
You'll need to buy and install Windows 7. Put the Win7 disc in the laptop's CD drive, and have the most experienced computer person you know do the rest. Be patient with that person.
The place where you buy Windows 7 can probably do all of the setup work for you for a nominal fee.

Hi i purchased a dell 1318 laptop from china suddenly i cont install xp it,s support only win7 while trying to install xp it will display the error message like this

Your laptop may have a SATA hard drive.
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Either Windows has screwed itself up to the point where it won't boot, or there may be other problems (motherboard, hard drive, virus) that's causing this problem. But it appears that there's a good chance you can still get at the data on your hard drive - I'm assuming you have the hard drive version and not the SSD since you mentioned Windows

I'd take the hard drive out (HP puts its service guide on line, here's the link: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01683469.pdf ), the restore procedures are also within the guide.

I think these 1000's use 1.8" ZIF drives -- google the drive model # once you have it out, just in case. The easiest way to get it connected to any computer would be to use a external USB enclosure made for 1.8" ZIF drives (try your local stores first, if they ain't got it, then eBay). That's what I"d do with any hard drives that won't boot. You can try and get at the data once it's connected to another computer via USB, and you can run some basic tests on it as well.

Of course ... don't forget to have anti-virus active and running on any computer before you connect a USB drive to it.

I bought a new hardrive for my m2000 and when i load it it is giving me a "media test failure" response..... how do i load it properly?

If you bought a new hard drive (meaning the internal hard disk), it won't have anything on it. If you just install it and try booting your computer, there won't be an operating system to load. The BIOS (the operating system built into the motherboard) is set up to try loading the operating from connected devices in a certain order. Usually it tries the optical drive first, then the hard drive, and finally it tries to boot over a network connection. The media test failure message means it tried that last resort and still didn't find an operating system, and it's telling you that maybe you have a bad network cable.

You'll need to reinstall your operating system and applications so that the computer will start normally. If your computer came with a restore disc set, or you made a set yourself, you'd use those. If you don't have restore discs, you can do a fresh installation of Windows from CD. You need to find the disc for the version that came installed on your computer, since you'll need to use the product key from the sticker on the bottom. Drivers and utility programs you can download from Compaq's (HP, actually) support and drivers website.

Once you've got a bootable Windows system on the new drive, you won't get that strange message any more.

1. USB cable to Casing its completely a USB Device/Drive so where you plugged it?
2. "The Laptop does not see the drive or the USB adapter when its plugged in" you mean BIOS?
3. Windows 7 Pop Up Autoplay window what opens when you try to open it?

If your hard drive was running at the time you dropped it, your hard drive might have crashed. Sorry to tell you this buy you most probably need to replace the hard drive.

Hi,

Error Stop 0x0000007B can be related to viruses, hardware failure or a device driver issue.

Lets try this :--

Step 1- Insert windows XP disk and try to get into recovery console.(Can follow instruction displayed on the
screen)
Step2 - Once you login to recovery console, run chkdsk /p followed by chkdsk /r.
Exit the command prompt after chkdsk /r completes and restart your computer and see if that works,.

Step 3 - If it doesnt, try running a repair installation with windows XP.

Step 4 - Insert the windows XP disk, press enter to continue setup followed by press R for repair.

Step 5 - Let repair installation complete and restart your machine to check status of your computer.

Hope it helps !
Thanks
