Universal hand held remote controls for television receivers vary in price and functionality.

some features to look for in a universal remote

1. Is it well supported and documented on the internet
2. Are your devices listed in it's data base
3. Does it list devices you think you may use in the future.
4. Does it have a nice easy to read display
5. Does it have easy to read buttons
6. Is it dammage resistant

And how much you're willing to pay for those features.

Thats the past !

Now the other part of the story.

Television sets are fast becomming a thing of the past because of the internet

a person can easly use their PC to watch television by getting a Tuner Capture Card or USB tuner capture device.

How I watch television on my own computer

I use an internal PCI single tuner capture card made by eVGA nvida called the NVTV and a program called "MediaPortal" an open source alternative to Microsofts MediaCenter

eVGA NVTV single tuner capture card was made for Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition ONLY

"MediaPortal" supports NVTV single tuner capture card under Microsoft Windows XP since the core driver for the card also worked under Microsoft Windows XP or XP pro or ( XP HOME which I've not tested ) You should only need MediaPortal unless

1. you have an internal PCI tuner capture card and have no other solutions
2. have a situation like mine where you have a no longer supported tuner capture card
3. if you have totaly lost your television software that came with your tuner.

The next move for me is to buy a USB tuner capture device as soon as humanly possible.

Hope this information gets you going.

Shalom.

As for the remote code you need , you'll need to tell me the exact model number of the device you're trying to gain control over.

    TV Setup

    1. Turn Your TV ON.
    2. Find the codes listed next to the brand of TV.
    3. On the remote, Press and Release the TV key.
    4. Press and hold in the SETUP key, until the TV key flashes twice, then release the SETUP key.
    5. Using the number pad, enter in the first 4-digit code found next to your brand. The TV key will flash twice after the last number entered if this was done correctly.
    6. Aim the remote at your TV and press the Power Key. If the TV turns OFF, you have found the right code. If the TV does not turn OFF, repeat steps 3 through 6 using the next code listed for your Brand.

Auxiliary Equipment (audio receiver, CD/DVD player, VCR) Setup

    1. Turn Your Auxiliary Equipment ON.
    2. Find the codes listed next to the Brand of Auxiliary Equipment.
      Audio Amplifier Codes
      Audio Receiver Codes
      DVD Player Codes
      Home Theater Codes
      PVR Codes
      VCR & TV/VCR Combo Codes
    3. On the remote, Press and Release the AUX key.
    4. Press and hold in the SETUP key, until the AUX key flashes twice, then release the SETUP key.
    5. Using the number pad, enter in the first 4-digit code found next to your brand. The red light will flash twice after the last number entered if this was done correctly.
    6. Aim the remote at your Auxiliary Equipment and press the Power Key. If the Auxiliary Equipment turns OFF, you have found the right code. If the Auxiliary Equipment does not turn OFF, repeat steps 3 through 6 using the next code listed for your Brand.

    Searching for a code
If your home entertainment device does not respond to the remote control after trying all of the codes listed for your brand, or if your brand is not listed at all, try searching for your code.

Example: You've tried all the codes for your TV, but you still cannot get the remote control to operate your TV.

    1. Turn on your TV.
    2. On the remote control, press TV once.
    3. Then press and hold SETUP until the TV key blinks twice, then release the SETUP key.
    4. Using the number pad, enter 9-9-1. The TV key will blink twice.
    5. Aim the remote control at the TV and slowly alternate between pressing Power and TV. Stop when the TV turns off after pressing the POWER key. This means that a working code has been found.
    6. Press the SETUP key once to lock in the code. The TV key will blink twice.

Note: Use the AUX key to program the remote for an audio receiver or DVD player.

    Checking the Codes
If you have set up the remote control using the Searching For Your Code procedure, you may need to find out which four-digit code is operating your equipment. For example, to find out which code is operating your TV:

    1. Turn on your TV.
    2. On the remote control, press TV once. Then press and hold Setup until the TV key blinks twice, then release Setup.
    3. Enter 9- 9- 0. The TV key will blink twice.
    4. To view the code for the first digit, press 1 once. Wait 3 seconds and count the number of times the TV key blinks (e.g., 3 blinks = 3) and write down the number in the left- most TV Code box (at end of this section).

Note: If a code digit is "0", the selected mode key will not blink.

Repeat step 4 three more times for the remaining digits. Use 2 for the second digit, 3 for the third digit, and 4 for the fourth digit. To check another device code, repeat steps 1 to 5, but substitute the AUX key for the auxiliary device you are checking.

    Changing a Volume Lock
The Comcast Custom 3-Device universal remote control is set at the factory to control the TV volume in all modes. However, you may change the Volume Lock setting to Individual Volume Unlock to unlock a specific device's volume controls for independent operation in its own mode (e.g., Audio Receiver volume controls in the AUX mode). Or, if desired, you can perform Global Volume Unlock so that the volume controls of all devices can be independently operated in their own modes.

Unlocking Volume Control For A Single Device (Individual Volume Unlock):

    1. Press a desired mode key where you want volume to be unlocked (e.g., AUX) and controlled within its own mode.
    2. Press and hold SETUP until the selected mode key blinks twice, then release SETUP.
    3. Enter 9- 9- 3 and then press VOL- once. The mode key will blink four times confirming unlock.
If desired, repeat steps I to 3 (of this section) for each device that you want volume to be unlocked.

Now, after you select a device that has volume unlocked (e.g., AUX), pressing VOL+, VOL-, or MUTE will control the device's volume only in its own mode.

Unlocking All Volume Controls (Global Volume Unlock):

    1. Press and hold SETUP until the selected mode key blinks twice, then release SETUP.
    2. Enter 9- 9- 3 and then press VOL+ once. The mode key will blink four times confirming unlock.

Now, volume controls for all devices can be independently controlled in their own modes.

Locking Volume Control To TV Mode (Restoring Global Volume lock To The Default Mode):

    1. Press TV once.
    2. Press and hold SETUP until the TV key blinks twice, then release SETUP.
Enter 9 -9 -3 and then press 1V once. The mode key will blink twice confirming global lock.

Now, when you press VOL+, VOL-, or MUTE the volume of the selected device (e.g. TV) will be controlled regardless of the mode you have selected.

    Reassigning Device Keys
The Comcast Custom 3-Device universal remote control can be set up to control a second device. For example, to have the unit control a TV, a Cable Box, and second TV you will need to reassign the unused AUX key to operate the second TV as follows:

    1. On the remote control, press AUX once. Then press and hold SETUP until the AUX key blinks twice, then release SETUP.
    2. Enter 9 -9 -2. The AUX key will blink twice.
    3. Press TV once, then press AUX once. The AUX key will blink twice.

The AUX key is now ready to be programmed for your second TV. See setting up your AUXiliary equipment (audio receiver, CD / DVD player).

    Programming Channel Control Lock
By default, the remote control's channel- control capabilities are locked to the Cable Box. The affected keys are 0 -9, CH+, CH-, Enter, and Last. This will guarantee that you do not inadvertently change a channel while in the TV mode. However, you can turn off this feature to allow full access to these keys in the TV and Cable modes.

Note: This feature does not affect the AUX mode.

    De-Activating Channel Control Lock:

    1. On the remote control, press Cable once. Then press and hold Setup until the Cable key blinks twice, then release Setup.
    2. Enter 9 -7 -3. Press CH- once. The Cable key will blink four times.

Now, the remote control will provide TV or cable channel control capabilities while in the TV or Cable mode.

    Re-Activating Channel Control Lock:

    1. On the remote control, press CABLE once. Then press and hold SETUP until the CABLE key blinks twice, then release SETUP.
    2. Enter 9-7-3 and then press CH+ once. The CABLE key will blink twice.

Now, regardless if you select the TV or CABLE mode, only the channel control capability of your cable box will be accessible.

    Shalom :-)

I need the remote code for an Olevia 237-S12 tv for my Comcast cable remote.

Olevia was never big enough to be given any codes by the cable companies or the box manufacturers. What I finally did was buy a Logitech Harmony remote online. The price range is pretty broad depending on the feature set you're looking for. But if you're fed up enough it will get the job done for anywhere from $40 to $100+.

I can't program my Comcast remote for my Olevia model 232 S12, I have used all the codes comcast suggested to no avail

The Comcast remote will unlikely have Olevia codes available since its design age is much older than the set's. In addition, it may never have them since Olevia is bankrupt and probably of little interest to Comcast. You might check Comcast's website since the most recent codes will be available there.

Comcast remote don't work on olevia 232

Unless Comcast has seen fit to add codes for a bankrupt parent company, you aren't likely to ever find any. The codes are a fixed function (unless it is a 'learning' remote) burned into a table in a chip and if the table didn't carry codes for Olevia when you got it, it won't have them now.

You might check their website (Comcast's) for recent code information.
I wish someone would bring a suit against any of these manufacturers using the term 'universal.'
At best, they are 'multibrand' and, with the proliferation of 'brands,' there never will be one that can rightfully claim to be 'universal.'
There may never be a code for your brand available in every remote.

I think you are out of luck. None of the universal remotes recognize Olevia tvs. The manufacturer claims its because they are too new.

TV tuner

Bill, did your tuner go out? I have had the same television for one year. We had a storm and our Buckeye cable went out. All the other tvs came back fine except for the room with the Olevia 232-S12. Everything works now except for the tuner. Cable came in and installed a converter box. Just wondered if you had the same problem (not the storm, but the tuner)
