It could actually be a few things. i would start getting by the car scanned, maybe at your local autozone or something alike. thats if you would like to fix it yourself. or if you want to try things out on your own, then start by checking the spark plugs. if they look good then might want to try seeing if you hear the sound the air being sucked under the hood(that could be a vaccum leak), by listening to the engine up close while its running. if you find nothing then the trip to auto zone would be a good idea for the scan, which is free

1999 mitsubishi montero sport. Randomly started hesitations and low rpms in gear at idle. and highway speeds dropped rpms slightly and when let off accelerater rpms drop too quick and low. Any ideas?

Engine light on? Many things can cause this. Mass airflow sensor, throttle pos. sensor, cam sensor, idle control valve, O2 sensor, vacuum leak etc, diagnosis be great. Good luck

Idle good when cold, hotter it gets the worst it idles especially when sitting at stop lights

simple test for a vacuum brake booster
star and run the engine at idle without applying the foot brake
if it gets worse when the foot brake is applied , it is a vacuum leak in the booster ( replace the booster )
otherwise check for failed vacuum hoses including under dash control lines , vacuum leak at the manifold or EGR unit

Its a 2.2 ohv and it runs like it has a bad miss it idles funny and kinda bogs down when i hit the gas but once above 2000 rpms it runs decent until about 3800 rpms then it sometimes starts to backfire

You didnt say if the check engine light is on? Take it to auto zone or advance auto parts store and they will plug it into diagnostic computer and let you know what sensor is bad for free. My guess? manifold pressure sensor. Good luck, dont forget to rate

Ruff idle on my 2001 for taurus. At higher rpms it runs fine.

It is most likely you wheel alignment (costs about 20 bucks to have your wheels aligned) or try checking the tire Pressure to make sure they're all even maybe hope this helps

I have a 1994 Dodge Dakota, no power at low rpms

yes it does if it is reading lets say lower than normal that would explain easy start up and stalling later.the coolant temp sensor has two wires .so if your car warms up and your coolant is about 200 degrees your coolant sensor might say 80 degrees .access to a scanner to check temp would be great.

1995 toyota pickup, surging at around 2000 rpms

Is the check engine light on?

A major cause of surging is either air leaks between the air flow meter and the engine intake manifold, or a bad or mis-adjusted throttle position sensor.

Engine runs rough after about ten minutes /idles really low

Just trowing some suggestions out there, but, I would check the idle air control valve (solenoid) or the throttle position sensor. If they check out then my last guess would be the map sensor or the vaccuum to the map sensor. Hope I was able to help. Best wishes.
