Thank you so much for your advice, he told me it was going to be around 400. to fix it, and as far as removing the tv from the home it was the better solution for the both of us, as i had bought a larger tv for the room and having to remodel the entertainment center in the game room for the 50" it just made better sense for him to take it instead of trying to store it untill the work was finhised on the room.

Nope, sometimes you can have a perfect picture and the color wheel can still be bad squealing like a lawnmower. However if your model number is HLN5065w, then you may want to have him look around for the part. One of my suppliers has it in stock and one it is on back-order, so if he looks around he might be able to find one. You also threw a red flag up when you said that he has your tv, I prefer to never remove a tv from a home in order to do a repair and hope that most other shops do as well. Please let me know how much he is charging you so i can make sure that its a good rate and your not getting ripped off! Let me know so i can help!

$400 is a good price, down here that would be more like $500 hope he finds that part for you soon, if he cannot let me know i might be able to point him in the right direction.

My HLN5065WX will turn on, play for about 1 minute, flash funky colors then go black. Once this happens you can not shut down the TV. You must unplug to turn off.

Bad Color Wheel, its located behind the Lamp Pull Lamp out and use a Flash Light You should be able to see it.

The fan intermittenly makes a noise and the color changes on the tv

You need to give model #. Most likely you have a dlp tv and its not the fan but the color wheel that spins at very high speed and creates correct colors on your screen. This color wheel makes noise when its bad and colors go off when its running at slower speeds. Its going to fail sooner or later as its going bad now. Its a professional job to change the color wheel and could cost you $280-320 depending on the model. Fan generally never make anoise that is loud enoug to be heard unless its blades are hitting some obstru ction. Color wheels make whining or in worst case screeching noise when bad. check out www.fixurtvs.com for more FAQs. Thanks if you voted for me.

My tv, just shut off! the screen does not turn on, and makes a squealing noise! what is wrong?

That is the classic case of the color wheel going out on you. The color wheel has ball barrings that tend to break and cause friction within the wheel. It'll start squealing loudly when it becomes stuck. Before it broke, did you notice the color going out or a fuzzy picture with poor skin tones? That's the color wheel!

Color wheel or did i break something else?

Usually a bad color wheel will produce a high pitched sound or even a grinding noise; some sets may actually shut down if the wheel is bad or shattered.

To determine if you have a bad color wheel:
  1. Turn set off and wait for main fan to shut off.
  2. Unplug the set.
  3. Remove the lamp door and then remove the lamp.
  4. In the direction the lamp faces you will see a round opening; the color wheel is facing this opening. It is a round plastic wheel with colored segments—we want to look to see if any of the segments are missing; a shattered wheel should be clear to see.
I have also posted the general instructions for Do it yourself replacement of this part in the TIPS AND TRICKS section of this site.

I will attach a photo of the color wheel for you to know what you are looking for----

Can you help me with my TV problem???

Sounds like your color wheel may be at fault. Do you ever hear any unusual noises coming from the rear of the TV? Color Wheels usually make a humming sound as they go bad. This is because the tiny bearings in the color wheel motor have begun to misshape from use and heat. Your TV may have a new type color wheel assy that has a slightly different configuration but the result is the same.

Color fades out on tv

I have the same tv and the same problem (color banding, incorrect colors, colors blinking) occured after I replaced the lamp. I had a tv repairman take a look at my unit and he said the color index was incorrect, the tv doesn't know the correct colors to display. The best way to fix that problem is to replace the "light engine". The repairman replaced the "light engine" to my tv and everything is working great. My tv was still until warrenty so I don't know how much a new "light engine" would have cost.

Loud noise

I believe it is the color wheel. The motor might be going bad or it has dirt or dust in it.

I hope this helps
