Right now I am troubleshooting the same problem. If you go into your picture menu on your tv go to manual red convergence and hit right. It should give you 3 sets of cross hairs and your red will be able to move up and down and from left to right. If yours is anything like mine your red will not move from left to right but will have no problem going up and down. If this is the case, chances are that there is a resistor blown on the board attached to your tube that controls the red (far left looking from the back). If you don't feel good about checking resistors and diodes on that board DO NOT start taking things apart. repair costs will only get bigger the more you take apart.

Color shadowing on white lettering

This is called convergence.
If the TV has auto convergence or 'Flash Focus', run it. All projection TVs have customer controls for minor adjustment. Give it a go with the menu or the remote convergence controls.
If not, this is a common adjustment made by a technician on a house call.
If the error is really big, say the colours are curved or you can see clear separate letters and things, you will need the convergence repaired. Get a quote - Usually about $300- $600 in home service.

All letters on my laptop has a blue shadow.

That sounds like a defective monitor, return it to the vendor to check it if it is under warranty.

Blue shadows appear to be behind white objects

TV shows large red spot in middle of tv when dark show are on, you can see it more.  Now blue spots on upper right side too.  Spend way to much on this tv to have these kinds of problems only after 3 yrs.

Reducing voltage for Sony KP-51HW40

G2 = screen...On the screen controls behind the front grill, behind the hardboard. 6 pots, 2 rows of 3 pots. 3 for focus and 3 for screens. 1 for each of the the red, green and blue guns/crts.
To adjust: Run set, change to black screen with tv/video button. Dial each screen clockwise untill you see a color. Then counterclockwise slowly untill that color goes black, then stop. Do this for all 3 screen controls.
If you need to adjust the focus then bring up lettering. I use the QVC channel for this. Focus is done by eye.

Distorted Color and geometry of Picture

I've posted this solution several times but here goes. Try setting up the convergence through the menu by accessing the convergence setup menu. If this fails to work you have a bad digital convergence box and need a tech to replace it. About $60 to $100 fix.
