Question about Akai PT5250A Television

3 Answers

Turns on and off. Sounds the appropriate turn on bleep and stays on for about 20 seconds, then shuts of automatically. While off, a flashing red light occurs. While on, the light turns off. It shows a 'no signal' while on. I unplugged it for 24 hours, no compliance. Again for 72 hours, no compliance. Will not change volume, channels, to or from aux. ports, nothing. It's as if it has frozen up like a computer. Any Ideas.

You need to bring the TV to a specialist. What you need to tell them is that the light flashes , this is a code.. This means that you have a bad power module or there could be a list of other problems but this is still in need of repair. If you are comfortable with repairing the TV, I would still suggest that you have someone look at it and have them tell you what part needs to be replaced.
They may tell you the part or problem and in some cases they may even give you the part number etc.

 I can tell you from experience, that if the TV repair shop is reputable they should have no problem giving you this info.

They will call you and tell you over the phone what needs to be replaced... Tell them that you would like to see the inside of the TV and if they could show you. *( I would recommend that you make it as though you are just concerned about the cost etc.) This way if you tell them upfront that you are planning on repairing the TV yourself then they will find more issues and more complicated components so it will be more troublesome for you to repair the TV yourself...

Note: After you receive information about the part that needs to be replace go online and find it at a supply store etc.

The cost for a TV repair shop to look at it can vary so keep in mind that most will include the cost of the repair to the initial estimate.

That's about all that I can tell you from my end.

Thank you

What is the model number? Some akai tv's had a fluid leak problem where the seal on the tubes would break and fluid would leak on the board causing a werid problem such as this. I would start troubleshooting by taking the back off and looking at the boards closely for liquid or corrosion. Let me know what you find and I will continue helping you!

Screen turns red then shuts off

Sounds like a bad red projection tube, disconnect red tube socket and try again if tv stays on reconnect tube soket and adjust screen controls on front of tv under the front panel which you will have to remove to do any of this. There are six adjustment controls 3 are for focus for each color and 3 screen controls for each color. Look close at the black plastic control module should be labled R G B for focus and R G B for screens. Good Luck!

Projection TV keeps shutting down

Good Day;

Sounds like you have a bad green picture tube that has failed. To check this out; remove front speaker grill, remove small panel, you will see three CRT's (pictue tubes) sticking down, remove the little board on the middle tube then restore power. If TV stays on more then likely the CRT is bad but not always the driver on board could also be bad, check voltages.

Good Luck, big IRISH.

TV turns off

It sounds like you might either have a bad power cord or you might have an over heating issue. Some times the TV will automatically shut off if it senses a fan issue or it starts to overheat. What technology is your set? DLP, LCOS, DILA...? If its under warranty I'd suggest to get someone out asap to take a look at it.
