Lexmark 2500 Series printer does not work properly.
The printer first worked very well. Now I get printer error messages. The test page prints OK, but the paper feeder light blinks. I can't print other jobs, however. When I try to print anyway, the printer makes a loud clunking sound. Can anyone help? Lynn

It sounds as though you have a leaking toner cartridge. If you aren't using Lexmark brand toner, that is VERY likely.. nobody seems to be able to make a good compatible cartridge. Test by replacing it.

service call. However, certain rare occurrences, such as a a power
fluctuation or a stray static discharge in the vicinity of the printer,
can cause a false 122.03 error message to appear. In
these cases, the error is only temporary and can be easily resolved
without service. Follow the steps in the table to test this. StepAction1 Power the printer off, wait ten seconds, and then power the printer back on. Did the error message return? Yes: Continue to step 2. No: Print a test page. If the page prints, the printer is functioning correctly.

If the 900 error occurs
only when the printer is receiving information from a network or
computer, contact your software/network support. If the error occurs
when the printer is idle or not connected to the network or PC, there
may be a printer hardware or connection problem. Sometimes a bad
connection with an Internal Network Adapter/Network Card can cause the
problem. The first thing to check is the base printer.
check the base printer:
Turn off the printer and
disconnect every cable, except for the power cord.
Turn on the
printer and see if the error returns.
If the error
does not return, try to print a test page from the Test Menu.
Press Menu > to
enter Menus. Optra
S series and Optra K series printers: Continue to press Menu > until you see TESTS MENU. Optra T
and Lexmark T and W series printers: Continue to press Menu > until you see UTILITIES MENU.
Press Select to view the menu
items. TESTS/UTILITIES MENU is
now on the first line of the display.
Press the Menu > button until Print Menus appears on the
If the display tells you to

If the test page prints
correctly, the printer's hardware is most likely working correctly. The
source of the problem is probably outside the base printer.
If the 900 error occurs again
before, during, or after the printing of the test page, remove all
options (internal network adapters, optional feeders, second drawer
options, finisher options, additional memory, etc.) from the printer.
Then turn on the printer
and try to print the test page. If it still posts the 900 error, the printer may
need to be serviced.
If the error does not
return, then the problem may be with one of the options.
you receive an Invalid Engine
Code error message when you power the printer back on,
there is a problem with the printer. An Invalid Engine Code condition
will cause a 900
RIP Software Error message to appear if you try to use
the printer. The Invalid
Engine Code error means either that your printer has
lost its stored operating code for the engine board or that the
printer's engine board has gone out.
Go to Control Panel -> Printers. Is the printer listed here? Is the printer Online (It will say Online or Offline next to the printer tile)? If it says Offline, the computer cannot currently see the printer so check to make sure it is plugged in and turned on and that the cable is connected from the computer to the printer. If it is Online, right-click on the printer tile and select Properties. On the General tab, click on the Print Test Page button. After a few moments, the printer should spit out a test page. If this prints out, your printer is working properly. If not, let me know what error messages (if any) it displays or the overall printer behavior (blinking lights, beeps or other noises, etc).
