Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

1 Answer

Laptop screen Hi, When I close my laptop lid and then reopen it, the screen doesn't come on. I have to physically cut the power off the laptop and restart in order for the screen to appear. It just started doing this over the past week. Can you help me? Thanks, Melanie

Sure mam .. just check out the settings for "what closing the lid does" option which appears when you click on "more power option" that appears when you single click the battery icon in the icon notication area in the taskbar... put that setting to do nothing

My IBM ThinkPad T42 screen does not turn off when i close the lid

there's a small switch usually located physically on the body of the laptop or sometimes on the inverter called a close lid switch. it may have gone bad, you can either try to replace the inverter to see if it helps or you can look for that physical switch

I have a CF-30 toughbook and my screen lights up for about 4 seconds and then goes dark everytime I open the the lid. I can see the screen is still on but not lit up, it will relight if I close the screen...

It could be loose wiring.

1. Take the screen bezel and LCD board off and reseat all the connections. In other words, unplug and plug it in again.

How to: CF-30 toughbook LCD replacement video

2. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you must replace the LCD inverter.

My dell C610 Screen does not come back on when i reopen the lid. I turn the computer on use it then close the lid for about a min then reopen it and the screen just stays off but the computer itself is...

Known issue. The windows default settings for power saving mode tell the computer to switch it off (sleep) when the lid is closed. The sleep mode doesn't turn completely the computer, just the visualization devices (mainly screen, also some other components not required for the computer).
What I would advise you to do after restarting the computer (press on the power button for a very long time, until you cannot hear it working), is to change the power settings.
go to control panel, choose "power options", then see if you have "choose what closing the lid does". If it's not there (not all laptops show this option), choose "change when the computer sleeps", then change " put the computer to sleep" to "never".

That should do it. if you have any questions feel free to ask me.

My laptop screen become blank and stays that way

Before we go into the BIOS, lets try a few other things first. Go to the control panel, you get there by going to the start button and then to settings and there will be the control panel. Once there look for your "power options", open power options and look for the heading "closing the lid", when you find this, click on the drop down menu and choose "do nothing". Then look at the tabs at the top of the window and open the tab for Hibernation and turn it off. If you have windows 7, these changes can be made from the edit power plan settings. Try to edit the power settings first before messing with the BIOS.

you try pressing the power button once?  or maybe even pressing any keys.

Closing my laptop's lid crashes the system

Check what video card you have.
  • Go to start. Right click My computer. Click properties>hardware>device manager. Click the plus next to 'Display Adapters'.

Check the video card listed under Display adapters.
  • If you see Intel. Click this.
  • If you see Nvidia. Click this.
Just follow the wizard and restart afterwards.
Try to close the lid again and see if it got fixed.
