Hello, I have a SONY MVC-FD85 Digital Camera. When I place the 3.5 disc in it, it makes a whirring sound for about 10 seconds then reads FORMAT ERROR and a blinking C:13:01 Fixable or is it toast? Thank you

I think you lost this camera as disk price is more then camera value and its possible that this part would be an end of supply in Sony parts. If you wish, I can provide you disk part number for further search.

Hi,

If you have the error c:13:01 on a 256M or smaller, put it in the camera and format the disk from the camera. Put the camera in setup up mode ( on the knob) scroll down from camera set up to set up 1. Format is 1st selection, Go to Ok, Go to Ok. This should solve the problem

I can not locate where the memory stick is located on my Digital Mavica MVC-FD85. pleaase let me know

I'm sorry to inform you that the MVCFD85 Camera does not have a Memory Stick slot. The medium using in the Mavica FD camera is floppy disc.
The MSAC-FD2M floppy disk adapter can be used in some FD Mavica digital cameras.
With the help of the above mentioned Floppy disc adapter, you can insert a memory stick inside the adapter and insert it in to the floppy disk drive on the camera.

Have no manual. Got a Sony Digital Mavica 1.3 Megapixel Model NO FD-85 at a garage sale that is giving me a format error with disc in and memory disc in as well.

It just wants you to format them in the camera before using. If you go to the support section of the Sony website, you should be able to download a copy of the manual to your computer.

Can not put 3.5"disk into my FD85

This is an old model of Sony Movica and you can copy all floppy disk pictures in computer.

In your camera floppy drive is defective and requires replacement but floppy drive of MVC-FD85 is not available any more. So bet a new digital camera and think MVC-FD85 is history now.

My sony mavica mvc-fd81 turns on for only seconds, and turns off.

Have you tried another battery?
Even the lithium ions will eventually not hold a re-charge.
If the unit stays on with external power, there is a good possibility that a new battery will solve the issue

Sony mavica trouble reading discs

Hey jadyjo,
You need to format the floppy disc by selecting file, then disc tool, and then format in the menu system. Instructions on how to do this are on page 52 of your user manual. Remember that formatting the disc will erase any images on it even protected ones. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Sony MVC FD85 won't turn on.

There are some micro fuses on these units. They are hard soldered onto the board and are surface mount devices. They are usually marked F301, 302 etc ( from my memory) if you examine the board and interior of the case there is a warning notice to replace with the exact same type and a small arrow pointing to their location.
The mavica often has a thin sheet of clear plastic covering the power board

Format error on a sony digital mvc-fd100

If the disks you are using are new, there is always a possibilty you got a bad batch or you got some that were not pre-formatted, or were formatted for an apple computer. I assume that there is some way to format a floppy disk with the camera. Try to do that and then see if the floppy is recognized.
