Compaq / Hewlett Packard Support Website. Make sure you have correct Compaq model (ie: Presario 5000). You should have a partition on the hard drive markes "system restore" or the likes. If not, you should have the O.E.M. (CD-ROM) that came with the system that will also let you re-install the operating system. A word of caution, if you try and re-install the O/S without the orgional CD-ROMS you may not have all the correct hardware drivers.

Redlit and no boot

The red light indicates hard drive activity/accessability.

Check graphics connections from graphics card/port to monitor, disconnect and reconnect. Also clean the gold fingered connectors of your graphics card.

Clean the memory modules as well.

A clear BIOS/CMOS might be an option.

If Microsoft Windows in not booting then you will need to repair the Installation using the orginal Microsoft Windows disk.

Take care!

Hi i have an emachines 3230 desktop pc and i want to know how to restore it back to factory settings. i have no disks or anything for it can you help?

Hi big sam666...
You can restore your computer back to an earlier time when it was running properly by doing the following.
Left click on "Start"> then hold your mouse over the following >All Programs">Accessories>System Tools>Left click on System Restore and follow directions given to you.
If that is not what you want then you will have to go to "My Computer" and left click the icon, then Right click on your Main drive (normally C:)>the click on "Format"...this will clear everything off of the computer except what orginally came on the computer.
If you do a format, you will lose all your data, pictures, programs, etc that you have installed, but it will give you a "New" computer. So be sure to back up all the info you want onto a different hard drive for later reinstallment.

Dell Dimension 5150 CD door closes quickly.

If an application is attempting to access the CD drive, the door will close. Put the CD in first and then launch the application.

Also possible a problem with the eject/load mechnism in the CD drive.

I have an OEM office XP with key code , when I put the disk in its appear that the disk is empty.

Try it on a diffrent computer it works replace the Drive. there is no way a disk can be empty if its a factory orginal its kinda impossiable. Check your drive. Also make sure the disk is free of scratches,

Hope this helps

I need to order a recovery disk for gateway desktop.

you can order any replacement dics from the orginal company gateway. depending on how new the computer is your system might actually come with a system restore option that will bring it back to factory settings.

I have a maxtor onetouch 300 I want to use it as a storage derive but i am afraid to because it recovers the entire hard drive and does not put it back in the orginal form that is a problem for me i am not...

You could use MIcrosoft backup feature and just back up the files you want to on the one touch or you can simply drop and drag the files you want on the one touch through my computer. Hope this helps.

Reset system

The only area that can be reset to factory settings is the BIOS. Else use recovery cd to return the pc to orginal setup.
